Re: saturday deliveries
Be careful what we wish for guys, I will suit Royal Fail to lose Saturday deliveries more than us.
They will save an absolute fortune at our expense due to redundancies which might not be voluntary the way thing are going with them.
If we have an office with say 20 staff, you need reserve cover to allow for rotating days off, Sick leave and holidays.
If this goes through, they would only need a few reserves to cover a rotation as less staff will be required in on Sat so they will need less staff.
Every office is different and everyone thinks of themselves BUT what if you are one of the ones who could potentially lose their job, duty or be forced into a reserve who might have to go to another office which is short staffed.
Not everything in RM is clear cut and they do it not for the better of us staff but for the shareholder returns.

Re: saturday deliveries
Theyd have to go down the VR route first ( im sure each office would get 10% of its staff up for that) , Then theyd most likely come after the people on old contracts as they are the ones costing the ££££ with better terms.Celtic warrior wrote: ↑21 Jul 2022, 16:47Be careful what we wish for guys, I will suit Royal Fail to lose Saturday deliveries more than us.

Re: saturday deliveries
I don't think there's anything to say they have to go down the VR route first. Many newbies are on short term contracts and it doesn't make business sense to pay enhanced VR terms of 104 weeks pay when they can just say thanks and goodbye.2yearpostie wrote: ↑21 Jul 2022, 17:03Theyd have to go down the VR route first ( im sure each office would get 10% of its staff up for that) , Then theyd most likely come after the people on old contracts as they are the ones costing the ££££ with better terms.Celtic warrior wrote: ↑21 Jul 2022, 16:47Be careful what we wish for guys, I will suit Royal Fail to lose Saturday deliveries more than us.

Re: saturday deliveries
tbqf I think you're in denial about just how much work you're going to lose on Saturdays if RM succeed in axing Saturday letter and flat delivery (which covers a very sizeable chunk of small packets) and the parcel hubs take away the format 3 & 4 items both Tracked and non-Tracked (can see it also being the smaller Tracked if they decide that everything is going ok)Jefferson Starfish wrote: ↑21 Jul 2022, 16:30Either that or he hasn't got a ******* clue.mjd24 wrote: ↑21 Jul 2022, 16:26Dont engage with him, he’s just a total windup.Jefferson Starfish wrote: ↑21 Jul 2022, 16:22Not everyone will be working Saturdays just as not everyone will be working Sundays. It wont go ok tho its RM, my none lat office has to do our own lats on OT as the official unit cant find anyone to do the 9-12 (average) daily lats we get.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑21 Jul 2022, 17:32tbqf I think you're in denial about just how much work you're going to lose on Saturdays if RM succeed in axing Saturday letter and flat delivery (which covers a very sizeable chunk of small packets) and the parcel hubs take away the format 3 & 4 items both Tracked and non-Tracked (can see it also being the smaller Tracked if they decide that everything is going ok)Jefferson Starfish wrote: ↑21 Jul 2022, 16:30Either that or he hasn't got a ******* clue.mjd24 wrote: ↑21 Jul 2022, 16:26Dont engage with him, he’s just a total windup.Jefferson Starfish wrote: ↑21 Jul 2022, 16:22Not everyone will be working Saturdays just as not everyone will be working Sundays. Absolutley no chance theyd be able to deal with all our tracked to, even if we sent 4 or 5 staff over once the jobs have been collapsed.

Yes there is.I don't think there's anything to say they have to go down the VR route first.
It's called Managing the Surplus Framework.
If you're removing actual jobs from the business it has to be used.
It's a big thick document.
I'll send you a copy if you want.
Are they? Many newbies are on short term contracts
Show me your working.
Not just in your mailcentre but as you seem to be speaking in general terms, the whole business.
How many short term contracts as a percentage of the entire workforce will do.

Re: saturday deliveries
We don't even get newbies in MCs, we just get even more casuals. On my shift if you exclude staff who've transferred in from other offices, we've only had a half dozen newbies in over 10 years. At least half a dozen of either left or retired over the same amount of time and there's probably a few more who are at or past retirement age or might end up with IHR in the next few yearsWoody Guthrie wrote: ↑21 Jul 2022, 17:43Yes there is.I don't think there's anything to say they have to go down the VR route first.

Re: saturday deliveries
Most new entrants now in deliveries are on short term 12 month temporary contracts. You only have to look at the Royal Mail job's portal to confirm with the job description.
If a Saturday working day ends, you are looking up to 20% reduction of the workforce. That includes Mail Centre employees.
Be careful what you wish for

Re: saturday deliveries
I for one really hope that we don't lose the letters on a Saturday.
Remember that trial 6 week trial period during the Covid times.
It didn't work then and it won't work now, as it will just mean chaos and longer hours on a Monday.
That's the view from Suffolk anyway.

Re: saturday deliveries
Doesn’t this all have to go through Parliament first before a day reduction of the USO can happen? I just can’t see the government giving any time for this for the foreseeable, there are much bigger things they need to be dealing with.
Unless I’m missing something and there is another way to reduce it to the 5 days?

Re: saturday deliveries
Well I've just gone on and almost every single postie job of which there are many says permanent.

I'm not sure why people insist on coming on here and just saying anything as if it's a fact.
