Re: Cover being moved due to working days off
Why does the duty holder agree to come in? A to do the office a favour or B, because they need the cash? I'll guarantee in most cases its B. Do duty holders have MORE say over the cover person? That's a new one to me if so.2yearpostie wrote: ↑24 Apr 2022, 13:04upset one person, v upset a whole office by having the argument over extra lapsing if the original duty holder dont come in...world class male wrote: ↑24 Apr 2022, 12:40......... ends up going off with stress2yearpostie wrote: ↑24 Apr 2022, 12:31

In a nutshell if they need the cash then they should be fine going to what's available. You clearly think its fine for the cover person to be shafted around and treated less than the duty holder. That in itself needs looking at.

Re: Cover being moved due to working days off
The "float" duty is a duty - the person who is the float is the holder of the float duty. The float duty consists of covering the day off of a fixed group of duties.
The regular duty holder is only the duty holder for the days that are not their day off - on their day off, the float is the duty holder. RM's ways mean they are often desperate for people so the regular duty holder effectively bribes managers by saying they will only come in if they can do their regular duty. So the float ends up getting shafted.

Re: Cover being moved due to working days off
If the duty holder didnt come in because they werent allowed to go on thier own duty, would you all be ok to take/ have an argument with the dom about the extra lapsing youd be asked to take as one duty wasnt covered?
( i can guarantee that the duty holder wouldnt be allowed in on a day off if there werent other duties that needed covering)

Better causing one person stress than 50-100 people arguing about the extra lapsing that would enevertibly be involved.world class male wrote: ↑24 Apr 2022, 13:16the cover duty holder has already said it's causing them stress and you think it's perfectly fine for this to continue for the greater good??

Re: Cover being moved due to working days off
common decency should be that the regular duty holder goes and asks their cover day before if they wouldn't mind switching and only a yes once they know which one they are being moved to and happy with it,
if it's a duty they don't know or is piled high with delayed stuff then they should tell them where to go

Re: Cover being moved due to working days off
Do you hold your own duty? If so if the manager moved you every single day to various different duties and blamed it on operational needs then would you sit back and accept that? You really are applying that duty holders have more right over anyone else.2yearpostie wrote: ↑24 Apr 2022, 13:29If the duty holder didnt come in because they werent allowed to go on thier own duty, would you all be ok to take/ have an argument with the dom about the extra lapsing youd be asked to take as one duty wasnt covered?

I signed for a cover, I didn't sign to be a reserve.
Yet again if the duty holder needs the money then they should be happy to go wherever for one day. They do not lapse in my office, they get one person to take one walk and packets and then catch up next day.
Back to my first point, if a duty holder got moved for one day in our office they would kick off with the rep so why do you think its perfectly acceptable for the cover person to be kicked off practically every single day?????????
Again you seem to think duty holders have more seniority over cover people. That is a grievance in itself

but who said anything about lapsing and since when does 50-100 lapse 1 duty?2yearpostie wrote: ↑24 Apr 2022, 13:31Better causing one person stress than 50-100 people arguing about the extra lapsing that would enevertibly be involved.world class male wrote: ↑24 Apr 2022, 13:16the cover duty holder has already said it's causing them stress and you think it's perfectly fine for this to continue for the greater good??

sorry but you are wrong on so many levels that you think it's acceptable to potentially put a guy off work with stress then become a target just because another selfish so & so can earn some extra cash without having any stress at all,
i'm certainly glad you aren't my rep or worse still a potential manager

You imagine if a duty holder got regularly moved. They would be seeing their rep after the second time it happened in short succession. I will always be fine with the occasional 'operational needs' but its happening 3 times a week every week. We have just had a massive revision and repick too.
This 2yr postie clearly sees duty holders as priority over covers and reserves. Im a lot senior to many duty holders in my office but opted for the 4 day cover.

Re: Cover being moved due to working days off
BECAUSE (again) the duty holder wouldnt even be in unless the dom nodded him in on overtime as they were short of staff.
If the only way that duty holder would come in is to be on thier own duty its either that vs extra work for everyone.

Re: Cover being moved due to working days off
no i think its acceptable to put someone who is used to covering multi duties on a different duty rather than causing extra work for a whole office and putting one person who is working a day off on something they dont know.world class male wrote: ↑24 Apr 2022, 13:40but who said anything about lapsing and since when does 50-100 lapse 1 duty?2yearpostie wrote: ↑24 Apr 2022, 13:31Better causing one person stress than 50-100 people arguing about the extra lapsing that would enevertibly be involved.world class male wrote: ↑24 Apr 2022, 13:16the cover duty holder has already said it's causing them stress and you think it's perfectly fine for this to continue for the greater good??

Re: Cover being moved due to working days off
Hold on a minute. I told you we have just had a revision. Half of the ones that now have duties were reserves or covers before this. Are you telling me duty holders only know one duty in their office? That is an absolute load of rubbish. There is hardly anyone that has been there a number of years that doesn't know anything outside their own duty. Everyone has been a reserve at some stage. So your saying a cover should go and learn a new duty? Again your putting duty holders above everyone else. I really hope you are not a rep.2yearpostie wrote: ↑24 Apr 2022, 14:11no i think its acceptable to put someone who is used to covering multi duties on a different duty rather than causing extra work for a whole office and putting one person who is working a day off on something they dont know.world class male wrote: ↑24 Apr 2022, 13:40but who said anything about lapsing and since when does 50-100 lapse 1 duty?2yearpostie wrote: ↑24 Apr 2022, 13:31Better causing one person stress than 50-100 people arguing about the extra lapsing that would enevertibly be involved.world class male wrote: ↑24 Apr 2022, 13:16the cover duty holder has already said it's causing them stress and you think it's perfectly fine for this to continue for the greater good??

Of the 10 full timers in my office 8 of them havent done another duty in over 10 years so all the walks have drastically changed.postiewhite wrote: ↑24 Apr 2022, 14:19Hold on a minute. Personally id like to get rid of duty holders completly and have a pick out the hat every day. When you walk through the door hand in a hat pick a ticket thats your duty for the day, All arguing completely gone as all jobs are equal and all that.

You start at the first door and finish at the last door. Each door has a letterbox.
If it is van share you even have someone to point you in the right direction.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
