Nipped in the office to sign for some o/t on Wednesday, on his desk he had a printed sheet with skills matrix across the top, with a list of all our posties names & across the top all the walks in the office & ticks & crosses of all the walks we know?

It is called a skills register.
One of the things a manger needs to do is put the right people in the right place at the right time.

You'd assume this would be bread and butter to any competent gaffer especially with how the company trying to consolidate and cut everything across the board. I've only been here just shy of a year but encountered at least a dozen managers at my DO and only this last couple of weeks with the management restructure have I seen evidence of this being implemented. Hopefully it makes life easier for reserves and especially new starters in the foreseeable.
