Believe me I have thought long and hard about the ability to pay and of course there would still have to be some form of top up for those unfortunates who cannot work. There has always been that element who cannot work, to us who have spent a lifetime working it's a breeze but for some it is not and we should take care of them. No matter what wages are paid there MUST be a contribution to the future, it must be made clear for what purpose it is being raised because people should realise its importance. I realise that it means sacrifice but if the alternative is an old age in poverty then it is a small price to pay.fishtank wrote:And that extra ability to save will come from where?...Higher wage levels?...not without the kind of fight that random is talking about and that sadly seems beyond most.dvbuk55 wrote:I firmly believe it can no longer be a question of choice but a legislative move to compel people from the start of employment to save for retirement at a high enough level to sustain a pension to an age based on the average life expectancy.
It's not simply an unwillingness to save for the future...it's also an inability in a lot of cases, especially in those far closer to the minimum wage level than we are.
Whether we fight to protect the pensions we have or fight for a decent wage for all to enable us to save more for our retirement the fight is the same...and against the same people....i know...more cliches.

Well they are undoubtedly worthy aims random but are they attainable. Look around you in the workplace do you see the stuff of rebellion? I don't. Apart from the desire to change things for the better, there must be a workable alternative to what there is, as flawed as it is.randompostman wrote:More clichés i know but “When injustice becomes LAW rebellion becomes DUTY!" Another cliche is the rich get richer and the poor get poorer and that is a truth we as workers live with every day! the question has to be what side are you all on, the bosses like some here on RMC or working people be they your educators, parents or grandparents, peers or children? Our struggle has lasted for thousands of years and has always failed because we have never learnt that we have the power but would rather act like sheep and be told what to think and do because we know no better. Education, Organisation, EMANCIPATION has to be our goal.

Of course DV...no-one wants to talk about the elephant in the room...women.
They live,on average 4-7 years longer than men and yet...make the same pension contributions.
Should we be looking at a female premium on pension contributions or perhaps raising their retirement age to 70?
Stand back for fireworks.

I think we should make the rich work instead of feeding of our labour and then gender just does not come in to it. After all we are all in this together are we not?fishtank wrote:Of course DV...no-one wants to talk about the elephant in the room...women.

Just throwing it out there for those that argue that life expectancy is the only reason behind the degradation of our pension entitlement.randompostman wrote:I think we should make the rich work instead of feeding of our labour and then gender just does not come in to it. It puts the middle class "Liberals" in an awkward spot.

For me the only problem is the crooks at the top. When you have so much owned by so few, the ONLY way they hold on to it is by making decent workers fight amongst themselves. A tactic we know well as workers called divide and conquer and that the elite have been playing for thousands of years. I am a person and if another person lives longer than me then good luck to them irrespective of gender, but to allow the elite to profit as they do from workers whilst they sit in their big houses having never done a days "true graft" other than stealing from working people i just can’t except that.fishtank wrote:Just throwing it out there for those that argue that life expectancy is the only reason behind the degradation of our pension entitlement.randompostman wrote:I think we should make the rich work instead of feeding of our labour and then gender just does not come in to it. Most were young and didn't have a wife and kids. You can see a list of who went to fight and their locations on the National Archive site (from the MI5 files) and they really don't fit your stereotype.Tman wrote:Of course, silly me. All those unemployed miners scavenging for little bits of coal on slag-heaps during the slump of the 1930s, and standing in line for meagre hand-outs, so what better thing to do than go and fight in a far-off land leaving the wife and kids to thier own devices?[And most of them where miners ,which I think you would admit is not the usual career path of Oxbridge graduates. Thankfully the British secret service logged their ID's and monitored their activities and communications ever after. So it seems now anyone with a bent to check up on facts can find out just how many Jesus professors bit the bullet at Guernica.
Never let a big fat chip on your shoulder get in the way of realityDaily Mail strikes again?
They invariably got their fares paid by the Communist Party, who did the vast majority of the recruiting.I expect they all searched down the back of the settee for a few quid and hopped on the midnight ferry from Dover, just on a whim, eh Bell?

Is it still an option for a sex change? It's no wonder they live longer ft, they simply do not work as hard.fishtank wrote:Of course DV...no-one wants to talk about the elephant in the room...women.

Actually it's only part worn, there's still a fair bit of tread left
Fact 1, millions of pensioners live in POVERTY!
Fact 2, millions more will live and die in poverty!
Fact 3, Whilst you joke millions of workers are having their deffered wages in the form of pensions stolen by the bosses as we as RM workers have.
Fact 4, Bloody shame on those that think it is a laughing matter.

Look random...your conviction is commendable and your ideals equally so but your audience on this thread is you,me DV and cliches permitting Tman.
I'm all up for storming La Bastille but i think you should perhaps try to increase your support base first...and lighten up occasionally.
The world is a dark, disturbing place where sometimes laughter is the only light.

Random I don't want you to take this the wrong way, but you've got to learn to chillax. Humour is a form of release but nonetheless you have to learn to accept the things you cannot change and change the things you cannot accept..................within reason.

Re: 30/06/2011. General strike.
Feel free to spread your poor jokes on the threads they belong they have several here on RMC 90% of RMC members post very little but flit through a thread taking on board all sides of it. Do you feel the need to post your cr*p on everything to validate your own poor lives on the internet? I won’t "lighten" up because that means giving up. Are you a CWU Rep? I wouldn’t be surprised? In fact i would lay money on it, to many conferences and LTBs sunshine. dvbuk55 when we (RM) get flogged off so "Government" can get their hands on the pension assets about 23 billion and then a few years down the line "Government" say you are getting far too much more than the private sector pension so must cut "your" pensions and all RM workers i can’t wait to hear your "jokes" then! If you have nothing to add feel free to peddle your stuff on other threads as well! You make the simple mistake that you know best and all RMC love you and yet i find you and your "type" more destructive than some of the other sad creatures from the otherside that post on RMC against us as workers. How arrogant are you to think that without you a thread would die? I care little if it does or not it is no problem to me, members can read or not as is their choice although people like you put people off from contributing as do others from the other side of coin here, i think the CWU and RM call them BULLIES! Oh to wander around with such grandiose thoughts. Storming La Bastille indeed you two couldn’t fight your way out of a wet paper bag ( sorry for the cliché) bloody glad i am not on a picket line with either of you. A fight for working people is in front of you and the best you can do is take the p*ss. If i was you i would WISE up not lighten up!dvbuk55 wrote:You are really a cliche machine ftfishtank wrote:Look random...your conviction is commendable and your ideals equally so but your audience on this thread is you,me DV and cliches permitting Tman.
