Made to resign by line manager

Post by abuch1980 »

I was made to resign about 5 years ago by a line manager because the ECR was done wrong. I transferred office from Royal mail permanent contract to Parcelforce temp contract but the ECR put through was a permanent contract at the end of my temp period they told me they had no vacancy for me. Was I wrongly asked to resign ?

Not sure what an ECR is.

But managers can't make you resign, they can sack you but they can't make you resign

If they advised you to resign to swap over the Royal Mail contract then its possible that you were advised incorrectly, and you could have lodged a grievance and eventually gone to an Employment Tribunal. However, there are strict time guidelines for a tribunal and if it happened 5 years ago you are way beyond them.

A grievance would still be possible, but the time gap would make it harder and you have to decide what outcome you would like to see if successful.

I resigned and left the company but I am back with Royal mail now again. Always bugs me though that I didn't fight it more and the union rep was even in on the meeting we had before I was told to resign.
Bugs even more is they kept a agency guy on the books and I still see him driving for PForce. I guess I didn't fit in to there mould of yes man.
