Dear Colleague

Joint Statement Between Parcelforce Worldwide And The CWU Regarding The 2012 Olympics

Branches and representatives will be aware that the department has been involved in discussions with Parcelforce Worldwide in regard to arrangements for the upcoming 2012 Olympics.

Obviously it was necessary to ensure for both the business and our members that the operational elements and the people's issues that are to be experienced during the Olympics had been dealt with in a timely manner and I am pleased to inform you that discussions have resulted in an agreed Joint Statement in this regard, which is attached for your information.

Branches and representatives are requested to ensure the attached Joint Statement is given full publicity in order that our members are fully aware of the arrangements that have been put in place.

Any enquiries in relation to this LTB should be addressed to Terry Pullinger, Assistant Secretary, e-mail: dwyatt@cwu.org quoting reference number: 039

Yours sincerely

Terry Pullinger
Assistant Secretary

JOINT STATEMENT BETWEEN PARCELFORCE WORLDWIDE AND THE CWU REGARDING THE 2012 OLYMPICS.

This Joint Statement has been developed between Parcelforce Worldwide (PFW) and the CWU to ensure that that everyone in PFW is aware that both parties are fully committed to supporting PFW employees in a mutual interest manner that will enable the highest possible level of service to customers whilst also giving due consideration to the impact on employees through this very challenging period. Both parties agree that the points below compliment and should be read in conjunction with the Group Policy already produced.

The key commitments are as follows:

No individual will be asked to change their start or finish times or change their annual leave dates because of the Olympics, unless they volunteer to do so.

People may wish to request changes to their start and finish times to help them avoid any transport disruption and such requests will be accommodated when they meet operational and customer requirements in line with local plans.

A sympathetic and accommodating approach will be taken with regard to late attendance during the games when lateness is caused by the Olympic disruption in line with RM Group guidelines.

Where additional resource or extra hours are required and individuals volunteer to perform extra duty, then the scheduled attendance rate will be paid.

Operational arrangements have been planned locally to ensure that the workload of each individual is such that they can complete their day's work within their normal hours of attendance including regular SA commitments, unless individuals have volunteered to work beyond duty times if necessary. To meet this commitment local arrangements have factored in an element of agency resource as either additional drivers or ‘runners’ to assist Parcelforce drivers on delivery.

As a consequence of the local planning resourcing arrangements it is not anticipated that there will be a need for large amounts of additional ad-hoc overtime. However if there are additional requirements this will be offered to Parcelforce employees before bringing in additional agency resource.

It has been agreed that the ‘First Time Delivery’ Bonus will be protected in the following way. Each Depot Manager and CWU Representative will identify the highest payment made in the past six months prior to the start of the Olympic and Paralympic period and then that payment will be made and protected during the period of the Olympic and Paralympic games.

It is anticipated that the Depots that will be affected are London Central, London North West, Charlton, Romford and Mitcham. However although major disruption is not expected at the Olympic venues outside of London the approach detailed above can be adopted else where should major disruption be experienced.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their continued and significant contribution to the continued success of Parcelforce Worldwide and its excellent reputation with customers.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
