I thought they already did, kind of.

Before I applied for a job as a postman over 5 years ago I seriously looked into joining Parcelforce as an 'owner driver'. I worked out all the costs etc much like this guy did and it was no way worth it for me when you took into account all the hidden costs and stresses too. Watching that video reminds me of the calculations I was doing while considering that PF job. Very glad now I didn't go for it.

The ones that became O/Ds in the depot I work in took redundancy and used that money to become O/Ds,,they were earning fantastic money at first,,then the company invoked a little known element of the contract and moved the goalposts to limit the earnings by paying only for the first 5 parcels delivered/collected ,,then they fine tuned it,,next up,I believe is a contractual 7 day working,,its a different scheme to Hermes but without doubt,Parcelforce will be just a brand name and the only employees will be the top management structure,,it is going that way,,you see more and more a bigger percentage of owner drivers filling vacancies in depots up and down the country,

Don't think there's any doing 60 rural drops lol especially at less than a quid a drop. Most are on over a quid a drop and doing urban areas over 100 drops a day. Also prob paying £20-30 a day fuel + goods in transit insurance and public liability insurance and van hire/maintenance. I reckon most Parcelforce owner drivers a clearing £30,000 a year for a 5 day week though.

Yes, that's pretty much the figure I came up with when I was working it out. Looked good to start with but it said no sick pay or holiday pay, and I'd have needed to pay to livery my own vehicle in PF gear, and all those hassles from the tax man for being self-employed. I reckoned that I could probably earn pretty much the same take-home pay by just being a postie!

If Parcelforce were to go 100% out source on deliveries,
How long would it be before we win the race to the bottom?
All the focus would be on deliver at any cost.
Parcelforce are well aware that they have over stepped the 25% outsource agreement. : :no no :no no
Yet we still see adverts for Owner drivers on Royal Mail sites :arrrghhh
