Best days of your working life.

Post by cantonkid1955 »

When I left school in 1971 with no qualifications jobs were plentiful,no such thing as an application form or a cv,,those were unheard of in those days. You could literally leave a job in the morning and find yourself in another job in the afternoon.I started full time work in the butchers shop where I already had a Saturday job(again,,another thing that has be stamped on by our elected leaders) and did my training as a butcher,.With the introduction of the big supermarkets and their one shop stop policy saw the demise of the traditional butchers but it was through a network of contacts that have been built up that enabled people of our generation to move from job to job,and we mainly stuck at it because of the mortgage and kids ect.
Having now found myself out of work through IHR,,(it was the arthritis that did it for me,),I'm finding that whenever I apply for part time work to keep me occupied,,there is always some young upstart fresh from school with an armful of qualifications telling me that because I've only had 5 jobs since 1971,and I've never been out of work,I am unsuitable as I haven't had much work experience.
When asked about Parcelforce, and what I thought of the company,I stated that they were the best days of my working life, great work colleugues(I think that's how its spelt),looking forward to a different challenge every day, striving to complete my work load,,they look at me as if I've got two heads,,.
It seems that todays young workers have a different work ethic to what us wrinklies have,,that they just want to attend work because they HAVE to and do as little as possible for as long as possible for as much as possible.,it would be interesting to read the views of others on this topic.
