Safe drop point, mail still there at 7pm!!

Post by Shiggaddi »

For the last 20 years, even before I joined RM, our local delivery office has used our house as one of their safe drops, since I live in a cul de sac, and our house has a porch, and is down steps out of view from the road.

Most times there's no bag outside, as the regular postie uses his/her car, however today I saw it at 11am (it could have been there hours before, but thats the time I first looked outside)

Well, there's been no post in our street today, and the bag is still outside the house as I'm writing this now.

Now I can understand if there might have been a problem with the postie not being able to complete their round, so their manager would have sent out a replacement, however if that wasn't possible, I would have thought the very least they could do, is collect the undelivered mail, and take it back to the delivery office, so it's not left unattended for what could be 24 hours.

I'm not on the delivery side, but I was of the understanding that drop points were a temporary storage place, whilst the postie was on their round, not an alternative to the security of the delivery office. After reading all those horror stories about mail being dumped in a river, or stolen from drop points, I don't want to be in a position of reading about in my local paper in a few weeks time of mail being dumped close to where I live including letters for my family and neighbours, when I'm in a position to bring this to someone's attention.

Suggest that you give your DOM formal written notice that you no longer will allow your property to be used as a safe drop off point for delivery pouches.

For today I would ring the Delivery Office Manager first thing in the morning. Something has gone wrong but at worst case he will send a postie round to complete the bag separately tomorrow.

Don't worry about dropping someone in it mail should not have been left overnight, if the DOM/Lineo is switched on he should know about it already.

That was a thought at the back of my mind, rather than someone just not doing their round.

However, once the DOM is made aware, he/she should have made arrangements to take the mail to the security of the delivery office overnight.

They are probably expecting you to deliver it under the new flexibility rules
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

Happened to me in 2004. Idiot hit me with a car. I was OK. He got done for having unbelted kids in the car, for me he got a slap on the wrist.

The postie whose garage the other bags were in delivered it for me as I lay in hospital. :shhhhh
