Toliet time wasters

Post by i love mail sort »

Every office must have them, while you are on the sorting in the morning people at the same time everyday disappear to the toilets for anywhere between 10 and 20 minutes a day. I mean who spends 20 minutes a day on the toilet having a crap. They are obviously can't be bothered to sort and would rather pass the time in the toilets. Pisses me off :mad

You could set your clocks by the times I go every day but I have always been regular  But I am in and out straight away, and you are right it does piss me off as well, especially when I am in and out when others have gone before and come out 10 minutes later, the Lineo does not seem to care so long as the work gets done and therein lies the root of all our problems.

A former colleague of mine always went to the toilet shortly after arriving at work, but that was probably because the stench was such that his misses would not permit it and / or could not tollerate it at home. I never knew what happened on Saturdays and Sundays ( it was Mon to Fri working in that job ) .

The best instance is on Inward when somebody went "missing " for 1-2 hour . the WAM sat on his sorting chair so 1 . He'd have Witnesses 2. So nobody could play the race card with all his mates swearing blind he was working .

He came back and was where he'd been , to which he replied the toilet , the response was "If you need 1-2hr in the toilet , you obviously have a medical problem , I'll be making a appointment with the ATOS Nurse !

The guy started mouthing off , so he was threatened with the CofC , Probably nothing came of it , not politically correct , orders from on high etc .

I've no real problem when things are fairly applied , I'd nine years of Section A of the Rule Book "Employment & Discipline " being based on Queen's Regs in a vaguely similar industry and a few years in Security when it went a bit Paramilitary .

It's been All Command & Ignore as it's embrassing for years -strange how RM didn't waste time for union bashing and shafting everyone though .

We got one guy who goes about 3 times during the ips first thing, and it is to get out of the sorting coz when he gets back from the toilet he then asks who wants coffee and goes and buys them, while there he may bump into someone and starts a convo off and u may not see him until 2 minutes before the sorting is finished. THIS HAPPENS NIGH ON EVERYDAY AND STILL THE MANAGERS DO NOTHING. So i superglued his chair and he was stuck there and the guy nearly cried.

We've got one (well, the worst one) in our office. She gets in anything from 10 - 30 minutes late most mornings, often still pissed from the night before. Goes & collects her mail, cackles round the office & does everyone's head in. Then gets a coffee & if she can sneak a fag break in, she'll do that too. Always last on the sorting & first off. Sorts 1 letter to everyone else's 6......& the DOM does f*ck all, even though loads of people have complained.
It just totally demoralises you!

Same type of people in my DO, people who disappear to the toilet the moment IPS is called or the ones who lift their mail whenever everyone else is sorting, or the ones who will get a letter that is slightly out of the ordinary and then disappear off with the letter to try and find where it's to go (usually a good 5-10 mins on that one).

The trouble with RM is everyone thinks they are a manager. So much "snitching" goes on about what other people are doing/not doing its cringeworthy. The other thing that happens is when people "joke" in front of the DOM about something a colleague has done that potentially could be quite serious (conduct code offence) I just think sometimes people should get on with doing there own job and let the managers sort out the problems.

But the point is this: 95% of Royal Mail managers are about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike when it comes to chasing-up the duckers and the divers, the work-shy and the skivers. I give a sh*t because the work still gets done despite the ineptitude of the management, so there's no 'can' for them to carry. But the p!ss-takers are taking the p!ss out of their own workmates :so there

When I first started at Royal Mail, our office was fairly militant, and I would - and did - walk out without a second's hesitation in support of any of my colleagues if management starting getting heavy-handed. Nowadays, though, I am absolutely certain that I would not walk out for some of the blatant p!ss-takers that end up burdening me and their other colleagues with an unfair share of the workload. Life isn't black-and-white. Most of my colleagues have earned my respect over the years, but there are some that frankly don't deserve my respect or my support, when they are sh!tting on me on a daily basis. :evil/mad

It doesn't concern me if others aren't pulling their weight - that's up to managers.
It does piss me off though when I am moved from one place to another because the manager reckons I'm a fast sorter,
but doesn't bother those who aren't.
