Because it was the first to introduce them.

The first issued postage stamp began with Great Britain's Penny Post. On May 6, 1840, the British Penny Black stamp was released. The Penny Black was engraved the profile of Queen Victoria's head, who remained on all British stamps for the next sixty years. Rowland Hill created the first stamp.

Great Britain (Scottish Gaelic: Breatainn Mhòr, Welsh: Prydain Fawr) is the largest island of the British Isles. It lies to the Northwest of Continental Europe, with Ireland to the west, and makes up the largest part of the territory of the United Kingdom. It is surrounded by over 1000 smaller islands and islets.

The historic nations of England, Scotland and Wales are mostly situated on the island, along with their capital cities.

and -------

The Kingdom of Great Britain, also known as the United Kingdom of Great Britain, was a state in Western Europe, in existence from 1707 to 1800. It was created by the merger of the Kingdom of Scotland and the Kingdom of England, under the Acts of Union 1707, to create a single kingdom encompassing the whole of the island of Great Britain. A new single parliament and government, based in Westminster in London, controlled the new kingdom. The two separate kingdoms of Scotland and England had shared the same monarch since James VI, King of Scots, became King of England in 1603 following the death of Queen Elizabeth I.

The Kingdom of Great Britain was superseded by the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland in 1801 when the Kingdom of Ireland was absorbed with the enactment of the Act of Union 1800 following the suppression of the Irish Rebellion of 1798.

Image- I think those stamps are self explantory , I believe Norman Parkinson ?? took the picture which was used for stamps in 1967 .

I'd to use a few stamps to make up the airmail postage value to New York . I was told the postcard with the British Stamps were quite a novelty with her housemates , as the Yanks don't have a Royal Familly . The Kennedys are probably their nearest thing to Royalty .

God forbid that we'd have Brown's ugly mug on stamps .

Originally, it was these islands including Ireland and the islands around the coast of Scotland. This was to distinguish it from Brittany (or Little Britain) in northern France which had a Celtic influence going back to Roman times and which along with Galicia on the Iberian Penninsula, Cornwall and the Isle of Man is still classed as a Celtic area to this day. Great Britain is really a collection of countries and cultures rather than a political notion based on the idea that it represents one country. Whenever you hear someone going on about "putting the 'great' back in Britain", in the original sense, it never ceased to be 'great'.

It was Arnold Machin ( 1911 - 1999 0 who did the queen's portrait for Britain's definitive stamps since 1967 - also our coins from 1968 for some years.
