Royal Mail Shorter Working Week 4 weeks away

How is the Shorter Working Week or (SWW) implemented in your office we have been told to start work 12 minutes later what is your office doing about this lets hope for better ideas than this as this has to be the most stupid idea I have ever heard when we could have evened up the start times!

heard wee rumour they want to force 6min later and 6 min off delivery time but not span wtf

they have not got a clue
there hoping for no actual change just relying on us starting normally without sww muppets going to be fireworks

Very surprised about the time off the end but sounds better than 12 minutes past the hour or half hour start time.

Same as our office so on Wednesday and Thursday we will struggle. I bet most posties in my office come in as usual.

Don't know if your office is like mine but Tuesdays and Saturdays are normally better days to take a later start but at the end of the day what cannot be done in the time allowed can go tomorrow it is for the fools above our pay grade to worry about it but setting the alarm in the morning is what I am on about!

Basically anyone who is late every day anyway, will get an extra hrs overtime (full time). Any full timer who finishes early now, will be no better off. All part timers will get a pay rise. Our office is quite forward thinking in that they are only changing where they can gain, i.e talking half hr off Monday finish time as this is the day most finish early. Tuesday short anyway so leaving that alone. Wed, Thurs 15mins later start, Friday no change and sat 15 mins early finish. It's more thought out than a blanket same amount off every day, that's just management being lazy. Kinda depends on what your office runs ATM regards shift pattern and longs and shorts. One thing almost guaranteed, no duty will be changed to accommodate the shorter week. All in all, part timers will come out on top with this deal.

Don't disagree with your assessment as pay will rise for part time staff but we will not have the same time to do the job but therefor will not have time to do lapsing as we will be out later if we all start at the same time come October no one should be lapsing!

That would be the logical way of looking at it especially after the two lots of SWW from the latest agreement have been implemented. Most offices would then be starting thirty minutes later which is about the time it takes to do a loop or a walks allocation of summer absorption . Odds on what will happen though is the official mail volume figures will be pushed down the line and they will say there is time to do it. On some days this summer on days when we have done summer absorption taking everything into consideration I have done an hours work for free. That's where we are now and I fear the situation will not change. We have been informed though that more hours will be added to office budgets if needed as a result of SWW changes from someone higher up. If the PDA/AHDC data is used correctly and honestly I would think there should be major changes in our, the posties, benefit. We just have to wait and see if RM are honest or not.

Local agreement here to come in nine minutes later and finish three minutes earlier(38 hour week from 39), other p/t contracts adjusted finish times so duties finish the same time on longs and shorts (van shares). Already a few people saying they won't change, giving the company a freebie by starting at their old time, unbelievable. We were last to agree in our area (as we couldn't see how it was practicable), and majority believe it will increase the amount of overunning bein booked or bring back.

You can finish early Tuesday take off at the end of Monday Saturday leave Friday and on the busy days you start later. Now thats a great deal how the manager agrees to that i do not know.

Isn't September when part timers constantly working ft hours are supposed to be reviewed.

I'm 4th in seniority of part timers at our do and there are about 10 constantly doing ft dutys (not me I might add)

In theory I should have the opportunity of ft hours in the next few weeks.

We are starting 30 minutes later on Tuesday and Saturday and they are getting the P/Timers on 32 hours on 4 days to come in and do IPS 30 mins earlier

Quite often Saturday is the busiest day of the week so I wouldn't personally want a 30 minute later start on Saturday in our office. I think we will be doing the standard 12 minutes off per day. Will just add to the running total of work done for free. Cheers to the CWU for their excellent idea.......
