BANK HOLIDAY DAY IN LIEU PAYMENT

If you book overtime, as opposed to a day in lieu for a Bank Holiday, are you paid at the normal rate or is it paid at an enhanced rate?

Personally I would rather have the day in lieu and add/connect it to one of my vacation weeks off work. I would imagine if you asked for overtime payment instead it would be paid at the standard overtime rate and not even the scheduled rate.

Just did a bit of maths. I think its 11.29 but I might be wrong and that might be scheduled.

BANK HOLIDAY DAY IN LIEU PAYMENT

Post by crimson king »

Boxing Day fell on my scheduled day off and I was presented with the choice of day in lieu or payment for the day.

When I asked if it was overtime or basic pay, I was told basic and so decided on a day in lieu. The way I saw it, a day off was better than five hours part time pay.

Whether I ever see that day in lieu, based on what I've read in other threads here', is another story, but I live in hope.

Thanks for the replies. DOM told me it was standard rate, but, for some unknown reason, I can't think why, I don't believe anything he tells me. If he says, 'good morning', I go outside to see if it's pissing down.

Where an individual’s rest day coincides with a Bank Holiday they will have the option of being credited with a day in lieu equivalent to the hours they would normally work on that day or alternatively they can claim BH excess equivalent to the hours they would normally work on that day

Employment policies at-a-glance
Time off: annual holiday
Bank and public holidays
In Royal Mail:
• If you’re not scheduled to work on a Bank holiday, you’ll receive the equivalent number of hours as a
credit to the hours you would have worked.
• If your rest day falls on a Bank holiday, your manager will check if workload allows for you to have
another day off that week.
• If that’s not possible, you can either:
» add the day to your annual holiday entitlement; or
» take the excess hours paid as overtime. This will be paid at the Monday to Saturday overtime rate

Does anyone know if this policy has changed? As I would rather the overtime as my days off fall on the bank holidays but manager said that’s no longer possible. Any one got link to more recent policy guidelines? Please and thanks x

Our manager offered the choice!
