Callers Office

Post by baldrick »

Went to collect an Amazon packet from local DO's Caller Office this morning. Got there at 1100. There were about 20 people queuing in the office, and another 25 outside in the cold. Took 25 minutes to get inside, then another 20 minutes inside. Finally got my packet at 1145. The Callers Office closes at 1200. There were still about 50 people queuing when I left and more arriving all the time.
So what happens at the official closing time at 1200? Does the guy just close the window - I didn't like to ask him as he seemed stressed enough already, and if he said yes it might have caused aggro with those still queuing who wouldn't get served.
Is it like this all the time now?
Do people get irate if the window is closed after they've been queuing for up to an hour.
Are Managers doing anything about this? (There was an RM Mission Statement on the wall!)

Our callers close at 11.00am on a Saturday, luckily we're out of the way on an Industrial Estate, but the callers is always busy. As it closes at 11.00, we have to endorse the dockets at collect Monday as there is no way he has time to sort them before he closes, that's if we get them returned early as most don't finish till about 12.30-13.00 on a Saturday.
RM New Mission Statement, (Not Ours)
You don't spend enough, therefore you're not OUR REAL customers, so you can bloody well wait until we're good and ready. Now if you were to spend £1 million a year we'd even call you "Sir".

Cor your guy is lucky ours is in the town centre and never has less than 20 - 30 queueing. I hate the duty and have claimed its too stressful with some joy. The lineo will only put me in there when he has no choice. We have usually 2 doing it but the queues are horrendous.

What gets me is the ones who come into the callers office to get stamps. As we have a full Town Centre PO with 10 positions and 2 self dispensing machines 10 yards away why do them come into the callers office and join a long queue just to get 1 stamp.

Also at our office we lock the main doors at 1230 every day and serve those inside, one lets them out and one serves, it can be a pain as you open to let someone out and 1/2 the time someone tries to sneak in.

We close at 12.30 on Saturdays, past few weeks they have been queuing down the street, luckily there are 2 of us working in there on Saturdays(most of the time), so when its time one of us goes round to the public area and bring everyone in the queue inside, lock the door then let them out after they've been served.

During the week we are open 7 til 7, 2 shifts but only 1 person per shift, it does get stressful and we are well away from the D.O. and MC so we very rarely see any management, ring down for help every day but most times no one answers, if they do answer they say they've got no one to help us. When its time to close up at 7pm its guaranteed by the time you get round to the front of the counter there will be some idiot thats just come through the door standing at the counter.

What really p's me off is the ones that are standing in the queue talking on there mobiles saying 'i'm in the post office', i take it the massive signs on the side of the building saying ROYAL MAIL don't give them a clue :arrrghhh
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

The main reason for p739s being left is that the recipient is at work. So how do RM expect them to get to a callers office during the day? There could be a duty created, maybe even a few, so the callers office is opened at a reasonable time say till about 7pm, so packets and other letters do get to who they are supposed to, or is that not what we are mean to do nowadays?
Glasgow driver.

Ah but you have forgotten AL and ACs take on this is that the person who sent it is the customer not the recipient and this is the root cause of all the Customer Service problems we keep having.
