Holiday entitlement

Post by PostmanP@ »

Hi, I'm looking for a bit of advice/help! How would I go about finding how many holidays I have left? Do holidays carry over? I have asked my line manager but keep getting fobbed off. My 1st year with Royal Mail I had no holidays whatsoever!

Scummy managers.

If after a reasonable amount of asking him, approach the CWU rep and see if he can get an answer for you.

However, it is illegal that you had no leave in a year, even if it wasn't a full year you have a statutory right to a certain amount of days. If they don't carry them over then a grievance with a threat of legal action wouldn't seem OTT.

Thanks for the reply.
It's the same answer every time I ask! Might see the union rep tomorrow to see where I stand.
1st year I had no holidays, 2nd year I got my full holidays plus a week because I brought up the fact I had none the previous year. I then made up a week with single days but I still reckon I've a fortnight to carry on somewhere!
Just thought there was a way I could check this myself.

Something not quite right here if you had no holidays in a year as your entitled to 4 weeks statutory holidays +public holidays.
Does your office not issue with an annual leave card which gives you your total leave allocation for the financial year and receive updates when leave is taken showing you the balance that is left?
You can carry 5 days leave in to the next financial year and this can be increased with written permission.
You can phone HR in Sheffield and they will be able to tell you the amount of holidays you have left.
If you have had no holidays in 1 year somebody owes you some monetary compensation.

Nope, never heard of an annual leave card! There's maybe a good reason I haven't been shown one before!! Does this card give dates of when you took holidays?
I will get this sorted out, even if I have to phone HR myself.

Can I ask which type of contract of employment you have?

Part time 27 hours. In my 1st year I was only 25 hrs but got made up to 27.
I actually had 7 year service a while back & left for pastures new, big mistake! Anyway I came back but the sickening thing is I would've been full time if I had stayed put!

It has been known in our office in the past of low life management scum manually removing days from people who was unsure of their allocation.

Thats why now I keep a record of days I am owed and request annual leave cards on a regular basis.

You should get your leave sheet back after the holidays have been allocated...how do some of you know what holidays you have?

What has happened in our office in the past is, people haven't been able to take their odd days or bank holiday days their owed in the 12 month span they should have been taken... and some folk have lost track of them, and the odd days just keep getting carried over to the next year then mysteriously disappear in some cases.

If you don.t receive any notification of your annual leave in your individual annual leave sheet how does management record how much leave all personnel in your office are due ?
There would have to be a record for audit purposes so why can't you be copied in.
