PEGASUS/GEO

Post by KawasakiKid »

  Does anybody know how this PEG/GEO walk snooping tool works? I'm hearing it mentioned more and more by my weasel. He told me today that it's going to be used to try and take walks out although the office is up s**t creek as it is. It's not recognised by the CWU Apparently The GPS technology can measure from the pavement to the door/house front(what if the letterbox is down the side or round the back) It can't see steps or hills. It can see gates? Someone said in another thread that we supposedly get 8 seconds at each letterbox. Any techies out there who've got more info   :d'oh! :d'oh!

8 seconds is quite a long time to stand outside a front door and flick though a bundle and post a few letters.think about it how long does it take you to sort one house worth of letters out and post them?it's sorted before you even get half way down the path.when they test the duty you have 8 seconds at each letterbox........thats a long time if you think about it.
so when your tested do walk no shortcuts take time at letterbox, every duty will go over no probs.don't forget those catches on gates can be trick to shut too................. :Very Happy

TBT mentioned it in the WTL thread.

I've heard good and bad things about this Geo route, and it's being used up and down the country, but not down my way yet.
A lot of it depends on the Manager and the rep.
The Manager will try and stitch you up of course, and the rep should make sure it takes into account EVERYTHING.
I heard that my DO a few years back had that Pegasus do some bits and it threw up EXTRA walks so RM threw it out
The rep really has to be on the ball with it,and check what figures the Manager is inputting.
Not sure about it NOT being reconigsed by the CWU as it's being used now, that needs to be looked into.
But your area dudes will know.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

geo route is going on with us as we speak, our first section has there new duties up and running, our area rep told us to go along with it but if you check all the posts on this site it gets mentioned a lot
a few things to watch out for make sure your rep is involved all the way through, ours threw his dummy out once too often and got thrown out the meetings, check the walk speed there should be an average of i think 3 1/2 mph, but different areas it seems get different walking speeds as an avarage
once the walks have been mapped get the regular men to look through them to work out the best way of delivering, only the walk is done by geo it is up to us to plan how it goes onto the frame for the sake of hills, road crossing, safe drops, pouch drops, toilets etc after all there is no point doing your last bag up everest when you can do your first bag down it

insure all walks have an evaluation period before they are agreed to, this system seems ok, but far from perfect, in theory it is only there to equal out del spans not to be the gospel
if you have any questions post me and i will see what answers i can get for you

Title says it all. In my section Geo Route did a few weird things ie:

2 Postman going down a path shared by 2 houses 1 going left and 1 going right.

Making 1 postman back a dual carriage way Image

My walk starting at bottom of very steep hill (I've changed it already)

  I agree 8 secs is a relatively long time but think about it? posties for H&S reasons should not be checking mail bundles as they walk, that should happen at the front door, also are variables like sticking gate catches factored into the 8 secs? :hmmmm :hmmmm :cuppa :cuppa

Geo route is better than Pegasus. See it as the new stage. However, none of these tools are any better than the info you put in. There will still need to be discussions, debates and also a trial period to actually get used to the routes, amend them, and find the quickest/most effective way of completing the round.

However, the bottom line reason will be to remove walks and certain targets will most probably have been dished out!

Take it from somone who knows exactly what geo route is about, if the walks in your office are not close to 3 - 3 1/2 hours I suggest you get ready for a fight ive had to put the block on this in my office.

The lead office in my area was recently told to remove 20 walks on the basis of a geo route planning, they currently have 76 walks needless to say we may be asking for a ballot shortly.

As fozz said this tool is all about savings nothing else, if you come out of geo route a winner the walks in your office must have been s**t in the first place.
