Got the bloody sack this morning !!!
Had an un-authorised absence (second one) due to having really bad personal problems over the past 2 weeks, girlfriend broke her back and also her ex partner was threatening to kill her and daughter so was off work and stupidly I didnt call work to tell them as my head was so far up my arse due to all the problems we had. Went in this morning to be told by my manager that I had 2 options either to get the sack and it would show on my record or to resign and it would not show on my work record that I would be sacked. Gutted, I really should have taken somebody in with me but didnt want anybody to see me in the down state I am in. Just want to say good luck to all u guys with your quest and will still be a regular on the site as I think its great.

Sorry to hear that James and you fought the good fight with us
I hope you get everything sorted. You were with Royal Mail a short time but you had a good insight which is a lot more than most get.

All I was told is that it would be less paperwork if I just resigned and just wrote on a piece of paper and signed it that I resigned, I was so down at the time I just did it as I wanted to go and look after my Girlfreind. I didnt have to fill anything in all he did was jotted a few things I told him on a piece of paper and that was it I was gone. I'm not a member of the CWU but have supported them fully by not scabbing. Is there anything I can do I had 1 previous no show without calling in. It may be easier if I listed the things he told me.
1) 1 previous no show without contact.
2) On the 27th Sep I was at my grandma's funeral and said I would do my round after it and they left it in a fellow posties garden, being very upset that day I didnt do the round and didnt contact them.
3) The first contact I made with them sinse the 27th Sep was this morning when I went for the interview as my head was up my arse with all the problems stated in my first post.
It sounds really bad what I did and dont blame them for sacking/resigning, I dont suppose there is anything I can do ???

Join the union, go in with a rep and get this sorted those are circumstances that require a level of understanding from your manager and you should not in my opinion be used to sack you as for resigning you can withdraw that no problem if im honest the way your manager has acted is quite frankly out of order this is not right.

I was on a 24 hour contract so not sure whether it is part of there plans, I didnt sign the form saying that I did/didnt want a person to come in with me the only thing I had to sign was the resignation note, Is it worth fighting or would it be a waste of time ?

I would definetely get in touch with your Union rep, just to see what they think of your situation. I reckon you have a case worth fighting if you want to. I used to be on a 25hr contract, and because practically everyone was out on delivery when I got in (9am)they used to try and push me around, get me to do extra etc. Seriously, Managers are blatant bullies at times especially when you're a new starter. So don't let them get away with it, yes they were unauthorised absences but look at the circumstances, plus I know people at my place with more than 2 UAs.JAMESMARSH1980 wrote:madelin4 wrote:Sorry to hear, i wud def seek advice if it was me..i wonder is this more of there new plans.

On the other hand, maybe it's good you got out. Basically IMO you have a decent enough case, it's upto you if you want to contest it. All the best to you mate

I think that until one is in a job for 12 months you only have little rights, but still if i was you i wud consider going to citizens advice also, then at least you know you have checked it out.. You seem to be young still so mayb you might look back and say thank goodness you got out.. Take care..JAMESMARSH1980 wrote:madelin4 wrote:Sorry to hear, i wud def seek advice if it was me..i wonder is this more of there new plans.

Wether you are right or wrong managers still have to follow the conduct code. Your manager hasnt. No fact finding, formal interview, taken on board mitigating circumstances... Pursue this, join the union and take him the whole road. At he moment we are not what Crozier wants..a non unionised casual workforce that can sacked if your face doesnt fit...chase this up.
