Worried, brought 1 Loop back.

Post by 19times »

Slightly concerned

I had to cut off (worked till my time) to pick my Daughter up so I ended up bringing one loop back after my P&L partner said he would only do one out of the two loops we had left. He said he'd go over in the office but changed his tune when we got out there towards the end.

I went to inform the gaffers on return to the office but they were all out doing delivery's it was that bad so there was no one to tell!

I'm off tomorrow but should I expect a bollocking on Sat? I really worked my arse off and tried to inform them on my return - I should have told them we were unable to complete before we went out but I was under the impression the fella I was working with would go over to finish it (45min Loop was left)

It was the first time in a very long time that it went tits up mainly due to some numpty prepping the walk who didn't have a clue resulting in us getting out around an hour later than usual.

What should I expect? How should I explain this?

Cheers.

I would say that you should be fine, as your partner did say he would be ok to work over to complete - think the onus would be on him tbh?...

you tell them before you going out that your not going to complete. once they are informed it is their call whether you take it out for a ride or leave it behind so they can get it covered. dont worry they know the call the shots :nana :nana :dance

Tricky one. A lot depends on whether before you left your partner told a manager they were willing to complete or just told you.

That said if you had to pick up your daughter and the delays were caused by someone else's poor prepping then you have an excuse. More so when it's clear there were no managers available for you to inform about a change in circumstance.

A shitty manager might try and make a case against you but if it comes to anything it is clear you were left with no alternative and it is a failing on the managements behalf that you could not notify them.

Cheers guys, I really did do my best but it was beyond me, on reflection I should have made sure my partner told the management he would go over and complete but hey ho I took his word for it.

I expected someone to be around when I came back in though! just shows you what a farce it was if they are all out on delivery really.

I fully expect to be pulled on this on Sat though.

One you should have thought about it if there was an issue and raised it before you went out or if the issue happened whilst upon commencement of delivery ring them but they will not answer the office phone get their number and hide yours inquisitive bunch managers you know.

I believe that if you have not informed management prior to leaving you are expected to complete, unless you have an accident or a family problem crops up whilst out on delivery, in which case you ring in and get instructions what to do with the mail.

RM Conduct Code states:
3 DELIVERY
3.1 PRIOR TO COMMENCEMENT
a) Where an employee feels that on completion of preparation he/she may experience difficulty in completing his/her delivery within the authorised time allotted, he/she should approach
his/her manager as soon as possible before setting out on delivery. It will be for the manager to discuss any problem and advise the employee what particular action should be taken.
b) When an individual has requested assistance on delivery, but the manager feels that assistance is not required, this decision along with the advice given to the employee will be recorded and associated with the daily traffic volume records. The employee can have access to this record and may ask to see it prior to commencement of his/her delivery. In addition to recording the employee's request, the employee will be instructed to ring his/her local manager prior to a specified time or as soon as possible if full completion of delivery workload within the time allotted proves not to be possible.

3.2 AFTER COMMENCEMENT OF DELIVERY
a) If an individual is prevented from completing their delivery for any reason, it is essential that this is reported immediately either by returning to the office or by telephone (telephone costs will be refunded). A written record will be kept.
b) All employees should be informed of the local authorised arrangements, in writing, preferably in plastic card form if available.

4. GENERAL
a) Employees must be made aware that mail must NEVER be taken home at the end of a delivery. Correct endorsement procedures and correct use of the pouching off wallet, if appropriate, will avoid this.
b) Although the main aim will be to avoid the circumstances that may pose operational difficulties to an employee and to find ways of overcoming any potential problem at a very early stage, it is also important that all employees are made fully aware of the implications of delaying mail and possible consequences.
c) Measures shall be put in place to advise staff on the course of action to be taken when difficulties arise when managers are unavailable

makes you laugh when they expect you to know when you would be finished.
Yopu only throw off 1 walk so how do you know about the other P/L round and what about P/T walks as they dont throw the round off how do they know how many recordeds , parcels etc.
On the question of notifying the DOM if there is nobody at the office , what happens in an emergency plus there should be someone in authority at the delivery office

Guys in my office are always told to inform managers at the start of the day if you think their may be a problem.

Works well, you tell them the early and warn them, then they cannot complain when you ahve to cut off.
