"The original Mail Centre Seating Agreement was reached at the end 2002, providing a national contract for the provision of chairs at all "Impact Fittings" flats sorting frames and in 2003 that was extended to cover "box letter frames fittings" and other workstations. However problems with tender specifications and funding disrupted the roll-out programme which has been on the agenda of the National Materials Handling Steering Group since 2005. There is clearly a wide disparity of provision across the Mail Centre Network and we are seeking both a review of the current position and funding to revitalise the programme and set up the necessary ongoing provision and maintenance contract for chairs in Mail Centres.
The Health, Safety & Environment Department would like to hear from any Area Representatives with unresolved problems in Mail Centres with the provision and maintenance of adequate numbers of appropriate ergonomically suitable, adjustable, durable 'draughtsman style' chairs."
The CWU have sent a letter to RM about this,i can paste it if you want,it's very long,or you can access it if you've registered on the CWU website.
Having had it agreed so long ago that a national roll-out programme would be initiated throughout the mail centre network, it is a matter of concern and disappointment that this was never properly completed and we still have a situation where not all workstations in all Mail Centres are provided with suitable and sufficient chairs which are regularly inspected, maintained and replaced as necessary.
Seems you guys have not got all your seating requirements,it also says a bit about reviewing DO's seatings as well, which should of been done in 05.
