Once DSA has destroyed Royal Mail

Post by kinmad4it »

Along with the numptys running (ruining) the business DSA will be hugely responsible for killing Royal Mail.
Do any of these companies using our competitors soley because they're cheaper realise that there will be no one left to deliver their crap once Royal Mail ceases to exist.
Companies like TNT might set up deliveries in big cities where it's profitable to do so. But the majority if not all of the smaller cities and towns wont be cost effective to run a delivery service and so wont get any mail at all. Apart from D2D's
I can just see it now. Huge Royal Mail buildings left to fall apart with nothing in the yard but a few rats, one rusting van with no wheels and empty plastic coffee cups blowing around like tumbleweed. Maybe they could be converted into cheap affordable apartments for the thousands of unemployed posties now the business has gone tits up.
All those Mad Max films and their rip offs are called "Post Apocalyptic" our future is "Post Post"

Postcom, the Minister with portfolio for Postal Services, has a long term plan. Whilst allowing competitors to gather sufficient large volumes of mail, he will order RM to reduce levels of staff over a period of years. At the same time he will order AL and AC to install modern machinery as quickly as possible. The biggest investment will be walk sort machines. Once all mail can be walk sorted the delivery of the mail may not be needed. Of course, Postcomm will have to impose standardised sizes of letters, flats and postcards. This will enable all mail to be processed by modern machinery in Area Mail Centres. All mail not machineable will be discarded into modern skips. We will maintain a similar volume of mail as our competitors. All mail operators will have the structure to deliver to businesses in cities. The delivery of all other mail will be franchised out and in cities and towns will be delivered by part time casuals (not difficult as it will all be walk sorted). In rural areas a network of collection points will be in place for customers. The Universal Service will be eroded over a period of time so that the public will be ready for it to be abolished. Details of the plan are are not available are subject to change if the public find out about the plan and force the demise of Postcom with the Government doing a uturn and ordering a Review of the Postal Services Open Market (as they promised in their election manifesto)

I personally don't think Postcom are unhappy with the basic structure of the way mail is delivered now as it is probably the most efficient way possible.

The biggest danger that we face is that they will try and tender out offices to the private sector so that TNT/UK Mail etc will take over the running of mail centres and delivery offices either individually or as a group with postcom tendering the contracts to the cheapest bidder.

This has been done in many other industries which were formally local government run.

This will have a disastrous effect on our ability to unite as a union due to the fact the union will have to negotiate with dozens of scab run companies.

I can just picture the ads in the job centre "paper communication operative opportunity for keen and flexible target driven candidate.
Can you meet the challenge?
We offer a competitive salary of 10.500 and opportunities for overtime.
45 Hours per week flexible.

I think :lfo and :cfo are more than happy for this to happen as they are doing nothing to stop or even try to reduce the amount of DSA.
