Where does the money go ?
On a normal day I might sort and deliver about 2000 letters which, ay about 25p each, means about £500 income for Royal Mail. I get paid about £60, so what happens to the other £440 ?

I think a memeber of staff costs RM about £75 per day when you include NI contributions and pension.
At a guess, I'd say that 50% of RM staff are on delivery so that means another £75 per day.
I can see that being more than doubled by rent, power, vehicle maintenance/purchase, stamp production and distribution etc so that is another £200
That leaves £150 out of which comes 40% tax, leaving £90 profit per town delivery route.
I really haven't got a clue what the real numbers are - although they are in the annual results - but there is a suprising amount of money spent.
