Casual Postworkers.

Post by rmware »

I have just got a job as a Casual Postman, and was wondering how many hours of work i'm likely to get? Im also unclear on the wage system. Is it weekily or monthly? Can't wait to start on the 25th Sep.

Imagermware to the best postal forum. I am afraid that it is unlikely that anybody on here will be able to help you.

Substantive posties are on a weekly wage, but one the disagreements we have with Royal Mail at the moment is that they want to move us from weekly to monthly without any help or assistance. My Guess though is that you will be on weekly pay.

As for hours, your guess would be as good as mine, they have got posties on 1hr weekly contracts at the moment, and they want us to move to annualised hours so that when its quiet we can be sent home and are then forced to work longer on busy days.

Anyway the job itself is good and once your settled in the banter between posties is brilliant so good luck you are in for interesting times.

For a 1 hour contract you will be expected to complete 3 walks without cutting off or claiming overtime

I used to be a casual during summer holidays at Uni, as an indoor sorter, I was paid weekly. So you'll probably be weekly.

Also, if you dont mind me asking. How does a 1 hour contract work

I know RM are taking on casuals for up to 30 hours a week, but the hours arn't guaranteed, if theres not alot of work going that day they can send you home and tell you to come back tomorrow, possibly won't have any work for you when you turn up next morning, so send you home again. Nice reliable work eh for a 12 week contract.
