Full-time recruitment ban?

There's a full-time recruitment ban in my area and i've read that its national, is taht true? Have any branches taken action on it?

Yes and No.

We haven't had full timer in three years and since the agreement on savings ended in March no-one seems to know whats happening to the saved hours.

Every full time duty that becomes vacant is being covered by a part timer but there are moves afoot to rectify this but I don't see a lot of hope - people are still going for buy down so we really are flogging dead horse.

True people are doing buy downs but that's voluntary.

On the other hand, when we argue against full time vacancies being filled with permanent AG's we're told its part of a national recruitment ban by our managers. They say there is no way they will fill vacancies with fulltimers.

The buy down made sense when there was a deal for saved hours but that no longer applies surely because there is no bonus deal in effect now.

There are so many part timers here now it is becoming difficult to say which are full time and part time duties - some only do 5 hours 9 am start some 6 am some 6.40 am some do 25 hours over 3 days 2x 10 hr shifts 1 x 5.

We do need to take stock and that's for sure.

All this No new full timers is starting to affect the service now as there is not enough sorters at my DO and now people are getting fed up of being called round to sort when we have already done the amount they say we should on their plan. If they force us we say we cant complete round and they then put pressure on us to complete.

Simple solution is to get more sorters and stop cuttings us to the bone. Royal Mail you are now reaping your cuts, cuts, cuts, savings, savings, savings at the expense of everything plan.

In our small office today I was sorting mail for all 5 walks,cutbacks cutbacks cutbacks!!!!! At the start of the summer we had 6 full timers,now we have 3 and 2 at 22.5 and one 30 hour contract.Its a fecking joke,as I say today one fulltimer on holiday one at main office collecting mail.What a shambles-I even got all the blame for all the missorts!!!!ME gees a break!!!!!

Don't worry though they wont grind me down I will work to my time and not a minute more,if the mail is stuck in the office----TOUGH---I must be the first office based postie in Britain

For the moment! I do think that we are going to have an office based sorting/prep staff and a home based delivery staff who can be called upon for indoor duties - and it may not be too far away. Sorting is becoming a problem in our DO as well and will creep in to all offices if this part time culture is allowed to flourish.

The best way to deal with this is for everyone on IPS to go as slow as possible. Why be a cog in their machine when you can be a spanner in their works?

Although dumb, they are not quite as dumb as they appear - prior to this latest round they took everyone on a sorting/prep test and keep a close eye on the lines.

One of the innovations a year or so ago was to allow everyone off the line to prep the "intra" mail for 5 minutes on their frame - which of course is grievously abused and serves no purpose whatsoever - but rather than admit they were wrong they persist in this crazy scheme.

We can go slow on IPS but they just start testing, we need the union to make an issue of it rather than duck it to avoid any flies in the ointment for the efficiency agreement. That's my feeling, but not sure if its just a regional issue, which is why i ask.
