LATER STARTS

Post by oralrural »

TOLD YESTERDAY BY OUR REP THAT IT LOOKS LIKE THE LATER STARTS WILL COMMENCE IN OCTOBER.
HE SAID THIS WILL GIVE RM PLENTY OF TIME TO DO IT LEGALLY BY GIVING US NOTICE.

You said it, brother. :Applause :Applause :Applause :Applause People should strictly adhere to their current start/finish times, later starts is
just another complete nonsense in a very long list of complete nonsense instigated by the buffoons at boardroom level. :cool

The union is trying to conclude an agreement on later starts as part of the negotiations. If, however, management insist on imposing this by executive action , the Postal Executive will have no alternative but to consider re-starting our industrial action. they will, of course, consult with our Reps and Branches on the best form of action to take.

Can someone advise me if my understanding is correct: If the union at National, Divisional, Area or Local level (ie collective bargaining to change the contract of employment) do not agree to later starts then RM can approach an individual and ask them if they want to start later but if they say no then RM would be forced to offer redundancy terms even if that meant the whole office and then employ people to start at later times on a different contract. :cfo :lfo

MANAGEMENT IM SURE WILL APPROACH INDIVIDUALS ASKING THEM IF THEY WANT LATER STARTS.
THIS IS A DIRTY LITTLE TACTIC TO UNDERMINE THE UNION.
PEOPLE FEEL INTIMIDATED THEN AND THE WEAKER(OF WHICH THERE ARE PLENTY)WILL SAY YES.
I GET REALLY P*****D OFF WHEN I SEE THEM SIDLING UP TO PEOPLE SLIMEING ALL OVER THEM :mad

The answer I gave when they came round my DO asking:

Q: "Do you agree to Later Starts"

A: "No"

Q: "Why Not"

A: "There is no local or National agreement with the CWU as yet."

Q: "That's not good enough"

A: "It is for me"

We have had screws coming round giving out surveys asking whether we would like to start later.

They couldn't make the whole office redundant so if they approach you just say no comment and speak to your local rep/area rep straight away.

Thanks for the replies. I think they have confirmed what I thought?? We've all said speak to the local reps who have refused to talk until the national guidelines come out. :dance :dance

like ive said in previous post its not the later starts which are a problem (apart from shift allowance) its the later finishes which are the real problem

heres my solution accept later starts (put shift allowance into basic pay) and accept a 35 hr week
everybodys happy RM get there later start we get a shorter working week
our hourly pay would have to be raised to make up the shortfall
whats wrong with that

Well that sounds sensible - same pay, 35 hour week, 7 hour day, start at 8 finish at ah..........there's the rub and of course you may well lose your paid break on a 7 hour day! ......... and that could mean an even later finish.

Dear

You have notified through [WTLL sessions/formal notice to my CWU Rep]* *[insert as appropriate] that you intend to change my duty time.

I am very concerned by the significant changes to my working arrangements that you propose, and about the impact they will have on me, and that Royal Mail is proposing to impose these on me without any clear operational necessity and without any proper discussion, or agreement having been reached, with my trade union, CWU.

I expect you to discuss these proposals with my union on my behalf. Please may I have your written assurance that changes will not be implemented in any form at my office unless or until an agreement has been reached with the CWU representatives.

Signed ………………………………..
