Hi, I have just been invited to a face-to-face interview for a postman job in Glasgow. I was just wondering what kind of questions to expect?
Also, in the e-mail I recieved a "Health_Declaration_RMG_v6.pdf" Will I be asked to have a medical test?
I had my interview 4 years ago but cant remember a medical.
Questions I remember them asking are:
Can you walk 5 miles.
How did you get to the interview (I walked) they asked me how long it took me.
Have you worked in a similar job before
They will also check your local knowledge - not street names but general locations around the area.
Also a bit of BS works as well along the lines that you know you will be representing RM when on deliveries and this is important.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
Thanks for the reply. Just a bit worried incase of medical test, I'm not ill or anything, just not the most energetic person...I don't exercise a lot (Gym, etc) although I do walk about 2-3 miles a day
Actually, think I'll hit the gym before the interview just incase.

Might be worth it mate I started walking 6 miles a day when I got the interview offer. If you are going to be a walking postman you will need to be fit - I lost 4 stones in my first 6 months.
Even Mail Centre/Driving Jobs you will still need to be fit as you could be on your feet for most of the day.

I couldn't walk the length of myself before I started, don't sweat it as long as you're reasonably fit and healthy you'll be fine
I'm preparing myself for the zombie invasion, rule number 1 - Cardio
Reasonably fit and healthy when you start. Clapped out and knackered when you finish. Welcome to the world of Royal Mail with it's antiquated delivery equipment.
no medical when i got an interview about 2.5 years ago.
face to face interview.they will ask if your happy about changes/being flexible so give them the answer they want to hear ;)
couple of simple word/number tests and your done.
19 years ago I was interviewed they asked me if I could read English write and ride a bike. They checked my record back seven years and declared they would give me a trial out to see how I got on. Theft as I am aware did not exist in Royal Mail we had to much respect, and maybe a little fearful of the inspectors who may I add dressed in the same uniform as us. Progress 'a' they changed the title to managers decline followed.
I had my interview about 3 months ago, didnt require a medical check, all they asked was If I could ride a bike, I couldnt drive so they asked how would I get to work, they asked why I wanted to work for Royal Mail, Am I flexible, Would I do overtime if needed, They did mention that I would be carrying upto 7 bags a day and walking upto 8 miles, and that was about it.
I think you will have to do 2 tests (used to be 3) they are 10 mins each, if you pass these you will be interviewed and have your documents checked (ie passport etc).
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

Yes it is 2 tests, they start off slow and then speed up, your eyes go all funny by the end of it and have to sit back in your computer chair for a few hours till they make there way back into your head, then you have the interview which was a piece of cake in my case anyway, just a few simple questions, then off to the induction day which is supposed to be from 9am-5pm but are's finished at 2pm and went home but got paid till 5pm, the induction day is easy, just sit and watch videos (Make sure you boo and hiss when the one with leighton comes on) most of the induction day is spent in the canteen, you sit in a room for an hour then have a 15 min break, the union reps will come in and see you for half an hour and tell you things totally different from what you have been told by the man/woman who does your induction.

Yes its 1 day, we had ours on the Monday, then on the Tuesday started at the Delivery Office, (We did have a welcome letter that said you start at 9.45 on the first day at the delivery office so I turned up at 9.30 only to be told by the DOM that I was half an hour late on my first day and it wasnt a good start, erm not according to this letter sunshine) Then i had 2 days with a floater who took me out on the round I was on then on the 3rd day I was out on my own and that was it.
