I think with the right management this company can be great again, first we have to get of :lfo :cfo and then get someone in who will fight for the company not just look to make a shed load of money out of privatisation.

Hope that make sense

I think :lfo & :cfo were bought in just to run RM into the ground and get rid of the union. Once it has been run into the ground it will be privatised and sold off for a £1, probably to the Chinese, as the government are eager for the Chinese to buy into British Companies.
China takes great leap forward into Western markets

Its vast state-backed investment funds are poised for a spending spree with Western corporate assets as the target - but it may yet prove to be a peaceful revolution, writes Richard Wachman

Gerard Lyons, chief economist at Standard Chartered Bank, doesn't mince his words: 'I get the feeling everything is up for grabs in Britain. It's open season for those who want a chunk of UK plc.'
Lyons reckons that the Chinese are the ones to watch: with foreign reserves at around $1.3trn, Beijing has money to burn. Last week, the China Development Bank sent shockwaves round the City when it paid more than £1bn to take a stake in Barclays. Temasek, the Singaporean state-owned fund, also acquired a holding in the UK bank.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

I can see TNT taking over in 5 years or less if things do not improve. The biggest sticking point would be the CWU, but they wouldn't be able to exist at a TNT business. It is the lack of investment that has killed us, our Government taking the profits but investing very little. The word modernisation meant feck all when the RM was in Government hands, and yet, it is used just slightly more often than E.V.R. is today.
I am sick of hearing the same old tossers who come away with "Snail mail is outdated." , "What reason do I have to use the PO now when I can do everything online?", "Bring in full competition, that will sort the Unions out." Sadly I'm hearing and reading these things more and more. If snail mail is outdated then why are so many companies moving hell on earth to get a piece of RM's pie? Why bother with having a bloody letter box? Where will you get your bankcard and pin number, or that parcel from ebay or amazon?
It is the attitude of apathy that pisses me off. The public are losing one of their last great British companies, but I get the idea they couldn't care less either way. We now live in a country where money is the king, and if something does not make money then it is of sod all use. So, it turns out we aren't making money anymore, but we'll still be asked to collect and deliver with less manpower, and no profit for investment.
I'm sick of hearing "Welcome to the REAL world!" Well, in the real world, welcome to walking to a TNT office to collect your mail. Welcome to a TNT that is free to charge whatever it wants. Welcome to a world where only Businesses will be able to send mail. This is postcomm's world and it is becoming a reality, we might not be dead in 5 years, but I'd say we'd be the main competitor to TNT. If you know what I mean.....

Remember the old saying: You never knew how good something was, until you lost it.

Q. Who exactly are the Competition?
A. People who'll post a letter for you.

You had a Prime Minister of our great nation when told that all the regulation and the Post opening up will cost 40,000 jobs if he signed the agreement.
He signed, that was a few years ago when all this 1st started.

You had a Government that set up a body to regulate all the s**t and the only rugulating that seems to be going on is against us.

You have a Government who is standing back while possibly 40,000+ jobs could be lost, and our revenue going down the kazi.

If Baldrick was a real person,i'd think the cunning plan was his idea and he passed it on!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Before the recent dispute came about, we at the BMC generally said we had 4 Christmases and 4 Easters left. This figure has been revised down drastically.

My personal opinion is that if we survive the next 3 years we should be ok - But its going to be close run thing. Which is why we need to fight for our rights, what the use of staying with a Company if you don't have protected rights. Eventually everyone will be on flexi hours (at RMs choice not ours), a minimum wage and 6 hour walks. If we fight for our rights and the company survives at worse we will only be as badly off as we will be after accepting whatever deal comes out of the talks.
