Re: WORK TO RULE OR STRIKE
Work to rule. Even if it is not followed by 100% of the membership, it would still cause a load of disruption, with minimal loss to us.

Re: WORK TO RULE OR STRIKE
The 4 things you have to ask yourself are...
1)Will the membership give you a clear mandate....70%+?
2)Is it sustainable?
3)Will it make an impact?
4)Is it fair?
I don't think any of them tick all of the boxes to be honest.
I never work overtime so there would be no sacrifice from me at all with a work to rule,it would be interesting to see how many voting for a work to rule would also be sacrificing.....nothing.

Re: WORK TO RULE OR STRIKE
I'd go for a full on strike because I'm a lazy bastard. Seriously though, I don't care as long as everybody's onside. There's no point having a cause that you'll fight for if the guy beside you is waiting to stab you in the back.

Re: WORK TO RULE OR STRIKE
like FT says about working to rule, our FTers hardly ever did any OT barring the odd one that would work day off or go over to complete a duty.
the majority already work to rule and have done for years.
also there is no overtime being paid in our office now and the only peeps doing it are the new starters, god knows if they are getting paid
so a work to rule would be pointless in our office at least.

Re: WORK TO RULE OR STRIKE
I would be sacrificing nothing, but with this method is there a need to? RM cannot run now properly on the duties that remain (my experience of my D.O), I believe this woulod snowball ie 1 day one duty, next day two duties etc, yes it would take time but it is sustainable i believe.fishtank wrote:The 4 things you have to ask yourself are...

Re: WORK TO RULE OR STRIKE
On a work to rule could it be possible for those that wish to donate towards a "hardship" fund so that any of those that are sacrificing are able to recoup some of their losses, particularly any <25 hour contracts.

Re: WORK TO RULE OR STRIKE
Are RM & the Goverment trying to provoke an all out strike???
They know that most members would not be able to sustain this!!
Then they may get rid of our existing contracts, only to re-employ us on new contracts ready for privatisation.

Re: WORK TO RULE OR STRIKE
It is always a worry in these situations that we are being led by the nose but fortunately there is no point in worrying about it because,if Royal Mail are provoking an all out strike they will simply keep pushing until we have no choice anyway.Delivery Donkey wrote:Are RM & the Goverment trying to provoke an all out strike???

If this didn't work they would just up the stakes until something did.

Re: WORK TO RULE OR STRIKE
Strike?
What, with the surrender monkeys we have in charge of the CWU?
Not a chance.
Work to rule, at least if that achieves diddly squat, I won't have lost a small fortune by following one.
Just imagine this, the buffoons call us out, we go out, management get a little worried about the growing tide of criticism hurled their way, management then open talks with buffoons, offering said buffoons a more solid partnership for the future, buffoons call off strike, we go back to no improvements whatsoever, and realise we've all just wasted a good deal of money on..........Improving the standing/status of buffoons leading the CWU and sod all else.
After November 5th 2009, I swore they would never take me for a ride again, and by God, I meant it.

Re: WORK TO RULE OR STRIKE
With whatever option i think only a hardcore would stick it,its hard to say how much effect work to rule would have- though
in certain weeks of the year our office relies on staff working their days off and in these weeks it would make an impact but day to day too many members are in early and using their own cars or have have zero discipline.
Rolling strikes would cause less financial hardship than all out,but theres no doubt that an all out strike even if it dwindled
down to a hardcore would be Royal Mails least preferred choice- but will even the hardcore be up for that?
After a union meeting we had last week discussing revision options and the recent letter sent to all members, most
left(those who bothered to come!) depressed and with not a clue what the f***s going on
god knows what a ballot
would return...
