More Part timers-Less Full timers!

Post by robd »

Over the last six months, the amount of part timers has increased dramatically at our place.
There's a lot of issues with this, ie.less people on ips,new recruits mislead into possibility of full-time contract, but a
big problem is the start time, most are coming in at 7.00 and when the final missorts arrive at 8.00 we're usually tied up and off at 8.10.
it means there's loads of missorts left from the walks that are still getting thrown in,essentially how can the quality of service be improving when there's letters and packets going undelivered!
your thoughts?

Too be fair, the fault lies at the top,and rather than the manager rock the boat and admit it's not working ,he can report back saying he's saved x amount of money.
The company has failed to identify the requirements of the local offices and has offered part time contracts officially starting
at 9.00am,when they first arrived there was nobody left in the office!
Most now agree to start earlier, but eventually someone will hold the company to their contractual hours and we'll be left high and dry.
I fear this situation will get worse, privately i believe even the management is unhappy as it can be 7.30am before they realise someone's not turned up and they've got a duty to cover! :no no

All new entrants will be part time now,so this is only going to get worse, your start time will be moved as well to help compensate some of this.
My rep told me today that there was no chance, that WE will be made to go part time, which worried me quite a bit.
It's the way the business is going although they have said that they "will remain predominantly a full time employer"
but "envisage a high number of people working different hours".

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Replacing full time with part time will effect everyone including managers. Part timers pension contributions will be nothing like a full timer pays . The pension fund is already in trouble and this will only make matters worse. Managers be warned your pension comes from the same source as the rest of us. :arrrghhh

Strange, down my way they're so hot on the missorts, the DOM's make a sweep of the office before anyone is allowed out.
Couple of days ago the missort guy didn't turn up,after asking everyone if theyd get em for the docket and everyone said no,one DOM went and got them himself!!!thats how hot they are about it.

In my office we have someone who has taken buy down and is now on a 4 day week so his round was on O/T today. Guess what, no takers for it so had to be taken out by DOM and Sector manager. The same sector manager who pushed for us to lose 45 hours out our office. maybe now he'll see it isnt working.
