Health and safety rep.

Post by POSTMAN »

Have you got one,we haven't,tbh if i was one i wouldn't have many friends.
Bags not being weighed, over weight packet bags in the sorting frames, koffins in the isles,it's a knockout type trial trying to get to my frame, koffins that are worse than the worst supermarket trolleys.

Just a few of my pet hates, but hey,who am i to argue..............

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Tell your d.o.m. or line manager to sort it out, its better then getting involved in arguments with your work collegues if still no joy then get your area health&safety rep to come down and have a word with the boys & girls.

In one ear out of the other i'm afraid, the floor manager 'weasel' is off at the mo,i'll have another word when the scrotum comes back.

But what's with the Koffins in the isle in front of the frame,i mean it blocks access down the isle, and is it that hard to make say 2-3 trips to the ips frames to pick the work up :mad

Either your office is 2 small or the boys and girls there dont give a s--t about one anothers health and saftey. Its the same in our place ,the building is over 100 years old and very cramped but most of the lads use a bit of common sense and look after each other .

A good H+S rep can sometimes be more effective than an IR rep as the law is on his/her side and he/she does not need to be confrontational, he only needs to make the manager aware of a problem formally and the manager is then liable for any incidents that may occur so they tend to deal with the issue a bit quicker when they know that they may be prosecuted personally. :no no :no no :no no

I am currently night shift H&S Rep (12 years) and Deputy Area H&S Rep southwest (9 years).

Whilst i can batter RM with H&S laws/rules, the biggest culprits are our own colleagues.
If you try and help by saying that is a broken york they are using, you get a mouthful of abuse because they are "only doing my job!"

I try and explain that you wont be doing your job from a hospital bed and RM wont be paying your wages, but suing you as using defective equipment is a breach of contract. And RM will recover the cost of someone else to do your duty. The verbal abuse starts.

I held deputy night shift CWU rep for 2 years, stood aside last year as we had an up and coming lad who wanted to be involed in the union. Only for him to tell me this week that i can take the position back again as he is fed up with the abuse from our fellow workers.

I can take the abuse, because i am quite capable of giving it back. But no-one should come to work to receive abuse!

Hug a CWU official today!!! :Very Happy

woemc,i was umming and ahhing whether to go for H&S rep at our place, but for the reasons you've said i'm a bit reluctant.
Do i really want to come in every day and pull guys up on things that they're doing, and like you say end up having rows and having me break by meself like a billy no mate.
Ideal workplace,we'll look out for each other, not like bits at my place, they're not a bad lot at my place, just uneducated in some of the stuff they do,and some a bit ignorant.
And when i'm eventually unmasked on here, anyone from my DO is welcome to come and see me and pull me up on some of my posts bout them.
But make sure you don't trip over the Koffins on your way,or the bundle ties that you throw behind you when you split a bundle on your frame.
I'll probably see you on a light tuesday as you'd of been in an hour early and have a bit of spare time on your hands.
Not a normal day though,as you're waiting at the end of the office for us to finish our missorts and local redi's impatiently, screwing, awaiting the "off you go" from the screws so you can get into your already running motors for a quick getaway and early finish.

Somehow i don't think i'll be hugged  :Very Happy

DON'T LET THE GUYS IN THE SE[EDITED] DO GET YOU DOWN LOL

POSTMAN do it matey! Once people realize you are on their side, they will apprietiate what you do.

You will also have RM management by the gonads as they dont really have a clue about H&S.

All it takes is common sense, just make them aware that RM is out to get them any way they can and generally, people will take notice of what you say.

p.s. plus you get a few days off a year "training" ha! ha!

Cheers woemc, gonna see how things pan out.

Rock,du think so   lol
Hmmmm didn't realise it looked like that, and to be honest i don't think i am,just a bit of a sarcy bastard :Very Happy
Tbh i don't go round looking glum and as if i think the worlds gonna end, just some certain things that go on,me and a few of us sort of roll our eyes to.
I'm cool bout it
Funny enough, summin i remembered today, one of our guys was medically retired early this year due to an accident at our place.
He slipped on some loose D2D's which are usually thrown in a corner near our signing in table.
He's an old boy and done his groin in.
A pile of loose D2D's are still and have always been there, before and after the accident :d'oh!
Actually i need a drink now,i'll check ya later.
:funneh
