It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

There is a limit to the number of non drivers you can accommodate on shared deliveries. It is, therefore, recommended that this is not an option to employees that can drive but choose not to. You should explore what other opportunities there are to accommodate the individual within your office. If individuals cannot be accommodated in your office, you may be able to accommodate them via a move to another unit within a reasonable distance, where suitable work is available. Where this is not possible an employee may effectively become surplus and in this instance you should take advice from your Regional ER/IR Manager.

This bit was interesting...
Q. I am currently a Royal Mail driver and receive a driving allowance - will I continue to receive this if I end up driving a smaller van?

A. Royal Mail pays allowances to drivers of vehicles larger in size than 3.5 tonnes. Drivers of vehicles smaller than this don’t receive a pay allowance. Most of the extra vans introduced into the business will be smaller than 3.5 tonnes.

Those who move from a larger vehicle to a smaller vehicle will lose their driving allowance, however, they may have allowance protection under MTSF 2 (see appendix 3 of the People Paper, ‘Managing the Surplus Framework 2 (MTSF2) pay protection policy’).

The answer given to delivering specials before 1300,the Shared PDA and the oversized packages are not adequate because if deliveries are built up using timed loops and you have to work outside those loops then thats time not accounted for.

Also the HCT should not be used in bad winter conditions and when this is the case they have no plan b other than putting the weight back on the shoulder and dropping bags off, though who would be able to drop the bags off as there will no longer be support drivers for each delivery route.

May the farce be with you...
