A serious post about Royal Mail agenda and health
Hi this is something ive been thinking about today after a nightmare of a day.Firstly the quality of the tools were given to do the job.My van came back from the workshop on wed, only for the drivers door to fall off today, meaning i now have over half my rural to do on top of everything else tomorrow(saturday).Uniform, the sole is hanging off my left boot,my arse is hanging out of the back pocket of my trousers and even though it went down to -18 over christmas, royal mail still dont provide jumpers or wooly hats.Phoning up for uniform is awful as its either not in stock or my manager has to authorise it(he always forgets then comments on my appearance).Workload,my start time is 05.45 finish 13.45,if i actually took all my breaks i would be finished after 4.00pm(i work through and book o/t).Finally the affect this has on a person.Firstly family life,i have children to look after in the afternoon and normally just get home as my wife is leaving for work,my kids are only young so i then have 4 hours with the kids, now dont get me wrong i love my kids to bits but its a long day without a rest.Secondly meals,i have breakfast on the go,get home to late for lunch then have my tea this isnt healthy. Finally sleep,by the time i have got the kids to bed,had tea with the mrs and watched a bit of tv its 10.00pm(my bed time). To sum up,is it any surprise with all these things to deal with on a daily basis that postmen/women are dropping like flies,i for one am coming to the point where im going to go off sick just to charge my batterys.Sorry for the rant i could have gone on forever.Cheers JL.

Slow down and work to your time, don't go sick as it could rebound on you.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Postman if i worked to my time i would just have to do it the next day,i prefer to finsh and book o/t,then at least on mon or tues i may get an early finish.I dont rush either i tootle along enjoying the view,im just sick of Royal Mail management treating us all like second class citizens.Something needs to be done or i swear someone will come into work one day with a Kalashnikov and thats not a joke(it wont be me though im a pacifist).

Don't do o/t. You are choosing to do overtime, you can cut off and improve your work life balance straight away. If you have been doing it for a long time then you have dug yourself a hole. I always do my contracted hours for these reasons.

Demon is right. You can get another job you can't get another life. Put a PMT in for your van and refuse to drive it then work to your time, have your meal relief then cut off if you run out of hours. Next, go home and enjoy time with your family or put your feet up and watch Match of the Day on iPlayer (or whatever floats your boat) carry on doing this ad infinitem and you will feel sooooooo much better. You might even find that you either get some help or they cut something off your walk to enable you to finish on time. If you prefer to book then you definately need a break...on another planet....for a very long time because what you are doing is covering up a problem with the length of time it takes you to complete your walk. Your DOM is happy to pay you, what £30/40 a week?, rather than solve this problem. So if you really care about RM taking the p*ss out of you then stop it NOW!

Not joking here--get The Health and safety rep to photograph you shoe(this is what I did a few years ago) and either send a picture and covering letter direct to your manager, reminding him tools have to be fit for the job.Tell him if you have an accident you will hold him and the company directly responsible. Worked a treat for me. Got money to buy a one of pair of good shoes. I now thankfully get money to but as I got Dr's line saying R/M footwear unsuitable.
Otherwise, keep your chin up--We've all been there(Again and again) and no job is worth stressing yourself to the point you become ill.
