Legally they have to consider all applications for family friendly working.
But get used to hearing the words "due to business requirements."

Not a chance i went on a visit to the d.o who were the first in for park and loop i asked the dim how many family freindly did he have he thought for a while then said none, so i had a walk round the office and asked a fair few about it they said whats family freindly, after this i spoke to the assistant dim and he said three had applied for family freindly but were turned down and moved out, you will have to get your rep to be strong on this or they will walk allover you.

at ndc, the management seem to be bending over backwards to accommodate 'family friendly' or 'flexible working' I know it is law and there is nothing we can do to stop it, but what I would say is, that it is causing HUGE unrest amongst the drivers at ndc. I think the management see it as a way of eroding seniority {remember our names were picked out of a hat for a duty resign} and they can pick and choose who they want, whilst causing maximum disruption to the morale of the drivers who will be affected by junior men going to the top of the list, but then again, management absolutely 'love' confrontation here at ndc. How can it be fair that these 'junior men' can have first pick of the cream jobs with o/t? my kids have grown up, ive done all the crap shifts, like getting home at 6 in the morning than taking the kids to school, been there, done that, got the t-shirt. I dont have a problem, If somebody has childcare/domestic issues, but why should that have to affect what hours I work?????

i don t want a plum duty

just one that lets me pick the kids up from school

they can give me the crappest duty in the office if they want to so long as thats possible

its the reason i took the job in the first place

30 quid a week d2d pay rise is not worth a flying f**k if we got to use it all and then some on on child care

And how are you going to do that if you are one of a pair on park&loop?
Remember this deal is not just about attendance patterns, late saturdays or money.
It is also about the entire delivery method used. :hmmmm

If you are with in a mile of start of your duty with no big hills you will use a HCT!. If not park and loop will be the preferred option for royal mail.

Nail hit smack on the head there.

Brother-in-law worked at NWDC and got an early shift via seniority, but it was a Tues-Sat attendance. Better than the crap duty he had before, so he accepted it even though he'd prefer Mon-Fri hours.

Someone junior to him got the last available Tues-Sat duty, but within weeks the junior man was asking for 'family friendly' hours, as he couldn't work Saturdays due to childcare issues (his wife works Saturdays in a nursing home). Management agreed to the request, and put the junior man on a Mon-Fri duty and put his Saturday hours up on the board for anyone to sign for as ad-hoc overtime :mad

Next thing you know, the family friendly guy starts coming in Saturdays on overtime :no no

RM management mantra: Divide and rule !!!!!!
