Doorstepping
I note that a few people here are very critical of doorstepping. And that this practise is deemed unacceptable by many long standing posties.
I have a life and indeed another job outside of RM, so for the three rounds that I cover I ask as many people as possible on each of the rounds where they would accept me leaving their parcels/packets. I have never ever had a customer demand that I stand there like a lemon at 7am waiting for them to climb off their missus or pull their dressing gown on and fall down the stairs before eventually getting to the door for me to hand over the packet.
I will go even further that the customers are delighted that they A) aren't woken up by an impatient postie or B) Don't have to drive 15 miles to pick up a packet I 739'd earlier in the day.
Surely this is common sense ? I get to go home to my other job and family earlier and the punter gets their delivery. Everyone's happy. Right?

What a good idea. Why not put it down in black and white and present your new delivery spec. to your area manager

Re: Doorstepping
The only thing i've ever doorstepped are lightbulbs, As for parcels, if there's wheelie bins or bottle bins at the front door i normaly pop them in there with either a 739 through the door to let them know or i sometimes just wright on the front of their letter (if they have one) as to where the parcel is

Re: Doorstepping
Only thing i door-step is Light-Bulbs also, but have asked customers where they want they're packets/parcels left in a safe-place, i.e waste re-cycling bin in back garden, which quite a good few wish to happen. If not simply leave it with a neighbour. Today had quite a few of them Electricity Monitors weigh a fair bit had a few for the 1 bag which all together weighed a f***ing ton.. don't mind light-bulbs but come on to f**k Scottish Hydro get ur act together and deliver these f***ing things yourselfs and RM is there anything you won't say NO to delivering no matter how much it weighs???

Re: Doorstepping
Chances are that if RM turned it down then Scottish Hydro would send it via one of our rivals via DSA and you'd then still have to deliver it but RM would get less money for delivering it.PostieWithTheMostie! wrote: Only thing i door-step is Light-Bulbs also, but have asked customers where they want they're packets/parcels left in a safe-place, i.e waste re-cycling bin in back garden, which quite a good few wish to happen. Re: Doorstepping
Any chance I get I ask customers that get packets regular if there's a safe place or a neighbour I can leave their packets should the not be home when I call. I always fill a p739 out tho to let them know they have a packet and where it is. Sometimes I use common sense with packets for example if there's a well hidden place I can stash the packet on their property (a shed or behind something dry and out of sight) and again leave a p739 informing them. I also keep my walk log up to date with this information not that any of the covers bother to read the damn thing
I would never leave a packet in the green recycling bin, when I worked in the callers we had lots of people come in with p739s complaining about their packets being left in a green bin and getting recycled

Re: Doorstepping
Theres the crux of the problem, your doing it to get home early, RM want you working your full hours so eventually you'll be given more and more work till your working your full time.BoxCleva wrote:Surely this is common sense ? Also your correct that most of the punters are happy with doorstepping, until one day they dont receive a parcel they were expecting, there not gonna know whether its been nicked from their doorstep or not.
If you doorstep enough times over a long enough period somethings gonna get pinched,do the job properly and protect our jobs please.
Any married man should forget his mistakes. There's no use in two people remembering the same thing.

Door stepping is unacceptable accept when advised to do so by a managerBoxCleva wrote:I note that a few people here are very critical of doorstepping. And that this practise is deemed unacceptable by many long standing posties.
but this as described by you
is not doorstepping.BoxCleva wrote:I have a life and indeed another job outside of RM, so for the three rounds that I cover I ask as many people as possible on each of the rounds where they would accept me leaving their parcels/packets.
AFAIUI Doorstepping is leaving in an insecure area without the permission of the householder. If you have their permission (hopefully in writing) and follow their instructions then its not door stepping.

Re: Doorstepping
In our neck of the woods we don't have secure pouch drops so full pouches are left on doorsteps until the postie gets there and this is considered acceptable by management. I have photos of most of these unsafe pouches drops and a copy of the walk log showing we must use them so if I am ever criticised for doorstepping I would not be afraid to go public with them.

Re: Doorstepping
Doorstepping can have a differant meaning to differant people. To me if a item is left in the open and on view then it is doorstepping. I myself have a rural now which can be very differant from a town. in terms of getting rid of items. I have worked to the premise, out of sight and under cover for 35 years, using something RM dont like nowadays, common sense. Worked for me .

Re: Doorstepping
Royal Mail is useless at communication: Why doesnt RM publicise the fact that 'Safeplace' is a procedure where you can designate a safe drop for your parcels therby saving you a drive and queueing for it!!!!

Thats shocking they will try and shaft you when one goes missing. I would get a copy of the walk log just in case.Eric wrote:In our neck of the woods we don't have secure pouch drops so full pouches are left on doorsteps until the postie gets there and this is considered acceptable by management.
