Had a memo come through our office this week explaining that from 1st Feb the local collect fee is to be increased from 50p to 1.50p. Now we send out boatloads to the local post offices everyday but im sure this will now cease. It's plainly obvious that a customer is going to say "bollox! i aint paying that"
Now here's the scenario. Royal Mail have hiked this fee presumebly to bring in more profit. The customer sees the new fee and isn't going to pay it and asks for a re-delivery instead. Local collect fees dwindle to almost nothing and fuel costs increase with all the extra re-deliveries.
Who was the bright spark who thought this up? There really are some grade A idiots running (ruining) this company.

Re: Local Collect
If you believe the conspiracy theory that they are running the business down in order to sell if off, then buy shares (low) in the floated company and sell them high a few years down the road, then it will probably make perfect sense.
Or if you believe the theory that we have have skilled business men at the helm, and that this is a well thought out response to the competition that is growing in the local collection of parcels market then please go back to the Nigerian Business school that gave you your emailed certificate in business studies and get a refund the £100 spent was not worth it.
My guess is its a continuation of the short term profits and bonuses culture we are currently saddled with in this Company.

We are a service industry!! They don't care one way or the other what happens...
RM in the pursuit of greed, "trampling" us, and the public, underfoot. Things will get worse if, or rather, when RM is privatised! All in the pursuit of the "Big Buck"and profit! That lot at the top will still get a big fat pay cheque and a nice bonus for achieving targets whilst the public and the posties have to suffer!

Re: Local Collect
Yet more greed... Chances are they will make the same amount of money - a good majority will no doubt say stuff it and use redelivery whilst a few with money to burn will continue to use it thus the income will probably remain similar. Of course for those of us on the streets or vans that means even greater workload, although I'm sure we'll be told mail volumes have dropped some more so we can absorb it!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
