WASHING

Post by side_door »

Some of you may already know this. But for those who don't.

You are entitled to claim an amount against tax for the washing of your Royal Mail uniform. I made a claim about a month ago and have had an extra £90 added onto my personal allowance for "job expenses". I have also had an additional one off amount, of £377, added for this year - which is this amount back dated for the four years that I worked at Royal Mail.

Anyway, this week I recieved a tax refund of £10.21 in my wages. Not enormous sums of money I know, but you can claim it simply by writing a letter. If you are interested, write to:

Royal Mail,
Queens Way House
East Kilbride,
Glasgow
G79 1AA

You need to make a claim for "Flat Rate Expenses" and you need to include your name, address, pay number, National Insurance number, how long you have worked for Royal Mail, and what uniform you have to wash (i.e., shirts, trousers, etc).

Sorry this doesn't make sense to me,hear me out.
When we changed over to the uniform we have now this was already done as i got some money back and my tax thingy was adjusted.
Has things changed since then or have i lost summin somewhere.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Just had a look back at the letter I recieved from the tax office. That address is:

HM Inspector of Taxes
Centre 1 Area
Queensway House
Stewarts Field Way
East Kilbride
Glasgow

I addressed my letter as I put it above - that might well be wrong since it seems I was writing to the tax office and not RM. Anyway, they have put an adjustment on my tax code and four or five other lads at my office have had this adjustment as well.

I've only worked at Royal Mail for four years and have no idea what happened before then, so some may already have this adjusted tax code.
