The cwu leadership
What should they be doing to get the public on our side?
Ideas please ?
I reckon they should take out a full page advertisement in every newspaper telling the public about the cut backs and later start times , later finishing times, eg, 8 am to 4 pm for deliveries.
Ask the public what they would like, and take it from there.
Weve got to take the fight out there, and let the whole of the uk know whats planned for the future.

I agree, there doesn't seem to be any push to inform the public of the truth.

agree with comments. i feel best way is to hand out leaflets on saturday afternoon in your own high street, people are in less of a hurry and you have time to explain our plight

Simple, just get the Roy Mayall article printed in 2 or 3 of the national newspapers. If they can't persuade the editors to do so free of charge then buy the space.

I think the public are on our side, just going on what folks say to me all day,day in day out
Lets not confuse big business propaganda media machine with what "the public think"
After all if you are a billionaire press owner with total control over media content ,then your interests might differ significantly from ours

Belial, i agree wi you to a certain extent, at every opportunity i tell my customers what the service is like, what goes on, and all i want to do is what ive been doing for the last 20 years, giving the public a good service -oops.
Its a simple job made easy, and i know the public is on our side just now,but theres gonna be big strikes soon, and i think we should get our side across in the media sooner rather than later, theyve got to spend our subs on something surely!

Large sections of the public are still smarting from the savage amount of Post Office closures and are now less taken in by the company propoganda machine.
Unity is strength

Totally agree with both of the above. We need to be media savvy and play the parasites at their own game.
However as Stumpy implies ,it does not matter what the media print if it conflicts with your experience.Bit like telling delivery workers that volume is down when they prep and carry more each day, sort of Peter and the wolf stuff, end result is we do not believe a single word they say

Re: The cwu leadership
looking at the link in the trollys outside the betting shop thread there are quite a few members of the public having a dig at postmen. they do not know the facts. all they see is the man who delivers and everything is his fault, later deliveries, the amount of times i've been asked where's my letter, parcel etc. what do you say to them ? call at the office and have a look in the 12 part full yorks. the lack of staff and services is down to management not us. soon it will be where's my christmas card you barsteward. although christmas isn't a nice time for industrial action, it is when it will hurt rm the most. lets be honest the way workers and customers are treated we have to stick it right up rm. roy mayall should be made into a d2d by the union and i for one would deliver it for free. :lfo :cfo :mfo

Re: The cwu leadership
totally agree..
in my opinion, the CWU didn't "communicate" to the public during the last strike. no newspaper ads etc......the public just didn't understand what it was about,so they just assume we're being greedy!
I striked many days, lost money, but ultimately felt let down by the union. Hung out to dry.
The CWU has to inform the public,or we'll lose any support.
We're depending on them to fight our corner, all we can do is make our families, friends and customers aware in the meantime.
(And that means every branch, not just the London ones!)

Agree also....for some sort of action to inform the public....!! Everyone who's stood on a picket-line has a fair amount of people passing who ask 'what are you striking for..?' We are the 'Communication Workers Union'.........LET'S COMMUNICATE...!!!!

Yeah guys couldn't agree more with you,we need to get the message across that this isn't just a postal dispute this is for every working man (and woman) in the country that we be fighting for
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.
