How's Running Royal Mail?

Post by tailfly12 »

Is Royal Mail been run by ex postmen/women trying to make a name for themselves by bullying or is it been run by part-time business men looking to get there big fat pensions topped up, when the postmen/women on the ground are getting screw for every penny.

There's a combination of former Posties, and Graduates at the Operational Levels. And Businessmen, with no experience of running a Postal Service, "at the top". It's often those Businessmen, who're putting the pressure on the Operational Level Managers. Who in turn, give in to the pressure to make cuts, and as a result. They put unfair pressure on the Posties.

It wasn't always like this. It's not all that long ago, that everyone started at the bottom, and worked their way up. So they fully appreciated how the service worked, and what Posties actually do. Rather than relying on often flawed Computer Models. :hmmmm

The Armed Forces always insist on someone working their way up from the bottom and for good reason. Never ask someone to do what you're not willing to yourself. You get respect from the guys under you because they know you've been there and done the job!

Do you think anyone respects their Managers? (Maybe the odd one or two here and there) I've heard of a few that were well respected and they've been forced to move on or get out because they weren't just allowed to manage an Office well, they had to make cuts and s**t on people which wasn't their way. :arrrghhh

Who believes this Bullshit they keep coming out with about mail dropping off? It's obviously been passed down from above. I weigh my bags every day and record the weights just waiting to prove the point. Couple of weeks back me and my oppo had 200kgs each!! DOM says, "I can show you figures to prove it's dropping off". ;liar Well so can bloody I. No one's yet explained to me how it is quicker to deliver packets & parcels than it is to deliver letters, any one had any luck with that one?

As for ex-posties running offices I thought the going rate was 12 pieces of silver not £4000 bonuses! Cheers :wave

That may work in the forces, but ex-posties doing jobs they have neither the wit, intelligence or training to do has been the curse of RM for decades.

["Why do we do it like this? Because we always have, that's why..."] They know no different.

Didn't matter too much when there was no competition to worry about, but too many ex red-bike pilots are now having to make long-term strategic plans and decisions, and as so many on here like to comment, they just don't make a very good job of it..

How's (sic) running Royal Mail?
Probably the anti-privatisation shadow Government of the late seventies through to the late nineties that is now the Government. Aided and abetted by a motley crew that had once encompassed socialist values but now value a fast buck over and at the expense of others

Long term strategic plans?
Rushing things through, via EA. Instead of negotiating them properly. Which leads to excessively long Deliveries, which in turn leads to later, and later deliveries. Lots of cut-offs. The worst Industrial Relations I've seen, since the mid '90's. Strikes, damaging RM's reputaton. Do I really need to go on?

So you tell me: How can that be considered anything other than panicked attempts to make changes. Rather than long term strategic planning? :hmmmm :cuppa

Don't worry about crystal balls etc, just say if you believe RM has competition or not. You brought it up, so can you answer? It's a simple question....

Here we go again. Another one of Agent's tangential arguments (meaning " I just want to say something contrary") ending in the same old "you said this, I said that" stuff, but here goes anyway.

So who mentioned anything about "doorstep delivery"? Oh yes, you did. No-one else...

Sadly Agent, there's more to RM's competition than seeing/not seeing some other postie delivering mail, but at least you recognised RM has "competition out there", and that's a start..... :whistle

ah so you'd rather take it as a whole in a conceptual kind way as 'the competition' don't do a final mile 'delivery' then the discussion can't progress any futher you have your slant and i have mine. Theorise if you must but the full picture is a little blured until others do a 'full' service bypassing royal fail completly until then the use of the word 'competition' should be viewed in the bigger picture ...........but of course royal fail are trying to frighten people into submission so these clowns running it can glean extra bonuses for themselves
