About your Office.

Post by POSTMAN »

Just follow my lead.

I work in a building with another office.

TOA:05-45 - 13-45
Nights:One 5-15hrs duty on Docket.
Drives:6: 3 Firms/Reg/walk 3 Packets/Pouching/walk.
Walks:16: Delivery points on average between 540-550 give or take a few either way.
Phg:2
Phg:rdc/walker:1
Reserves/rdc:8
My Duty:RDC

05-45 - 06-00:Clear in and throw in what we can.
06-00 - Inward sorting till usually about 06-30ish,sometimes later depending on how busy it is,then we throw in some more.
07-00- Usually a break, coffee and a fag, some do some don't but most of us do,for up to 1/2 an hr i usually go for about 20mins,i don't eat that early in the morn.
Throw in till bout 08-00 when a few of us go for another fag,i get another coffee.
Dreaded missorts come in around 08-30ish,takes about 10mins to sort that s**t out.
We're usually done and dusted betrween 9/9-30ish and ready to go,again depending on how busy it is,sometimes it's 10 before we're ready.
Driver takes us out,on average the walks i do take about 3/3-30hrs,bad days i can go over that,i don't do D2Ds,and us walkers don't do any Reg.

Union Rep:By an all a good bloke, does his job and is not out for a stitch-up like some Rep stories i've heard about.

Summary.

Over half of our office come in early and then use their Cars,a group of us are usually left in the office finishing off our bits, and they're well gone.
My drivers a gooden and we usually help each other out with the packet situation.
He should take about 7 of us out and pouch us all off,do his packets and his walk, interesting that his van can only hold 5 of us though.
As the drivers have smaller walks, they go out early and knock their packets out,but if they had to take us all out that would stop and some of us would fail, including them.
It just amazes me how much extra we give to the job,and how much money we're saving them.
Cutting of is quite rare, sometimes it's easier to finish and go over than have crap or have to do it the next day malarky, some claim a bit of Docket.
By and all it's a good office with good banter, and we get on well together.
The way the job is it's bearable, but if it gets worse........

So how does your's measure up?

EDIT:We're on the vans now,so don't take any notice of the times above! :dance

Nearly the same as Margate but sorting till 0645.

First Letter usually 0850 but my delivery never finishes before 1130 but usually 12.00 (600 + DPs and hills are steep here, boy am I not looking forward to the extra D/D)

The office itself is a 3 storey builiding in centre of town that is way too old and the lift keeps breaking down. At least they seemed to have fixed the waterfall that used to happen on the top floor when it rained heavily. You had to see it too believe it.

Most of the huddersfield lads are ok though at the moment there is a bit of bad feeling brewing betweeb posties and management. Management wants to get rid of between 8 and 13 walks and all night sorters, and for full timers to start at 0700 and part timers 0900 :arrrghhh . Don't they realise it will become harder for them to cover sick and holidays with docket, I mean who wants to finish their walk between 2 and 3 and they do another hour or two on another. Here comes the 9-5 postie and then I may have to leave as the early finish is what makes this job worth doing. :wave

Start day @ 6am lorry can be upto 30mins late
inward sorting till 6.30 if the lorry's on time
fininsh throwing up about 8am
missort @ 8.30
out on delivery by 9
finished walk by 12.30 depending on the walk im doing

Office is a little shed next to the post office.

never have WTL see line manager about once a week as we are a rural office.

The peeps are o.k most of them been there since 1970 so no chance of getting your own walk, just waiting for someone to retire!

we have an arrangement that if we get out early we all come back by 8.30 to do missorts works pretty well but whats the point when most day swe only get about 6 letters!

I'm a rare one,i worked in the mail centre before i came into the walks.

My walk has got 690 drops on it

I can start walkin by about 8 30 most days

home for 11ish12ish depending on mood/traffic.

We have got 60 walks covering 40 000 drops in a suburb of birmingham.

A heavey office compared to some ,but efficient.

Full time
5 o clock start, normally try for 4.30 to give myself head start.
6 o clock the part timers come in and go straight onto sorting. Some part timers in at 5 and sort on docket for an hour.
Full timers go up sorting at 6 for up to half hour, depending on whats left.
Cig break followed by throwing in rounds. (what is the deal with having to do mech first? It all goes out anyway)
I tend to do mech, letters, flats then packets.
Up to the reg locker for specials
Try and be tied up for 8, then pointless waiting for missorts. On Tuesdays, and quiet days I go out with a bag and come back for 2nd bag and misorts. On a good day first letter between 8 and 8.15, last letter half 11. on a bad day this all goes to s***. Tuesday?Saturday first letter 7 last 9.30-10
Usually take out between 1 bag to a round on docket, ghosting if possible.
Once back to office in my own time I throw in d2d for next day. Depending on time of day there may be a Yorkie of mech or two in for the next day. If there is then I sort it into frames and put mine in, along with any mail/flats for that head start
On Saturday when I return to office I throw in Monday's d2d and all the m3 that doesn't need to go out till Monday.

Can't figure the figures out
4 day week 10 hrs a day,a million staff,and loads of ips.
Mind you the walks are still the same as most of us 3-3.5 hours.
Would be interesting to see it in action,i'd like a 4 day week,no chance at my place though, but all that bloody sorting everyday
would do my head in.
But the SW4 boys seem to like it,i'm guessing your not working to time though Johnny?
How does a Tuesday work then?
