new 4 hour duties

Post by andy.m »

Im new to this forum, and fairly new to royal mail. ive been in the job just over 3 months now. now, about a month ago now, there was proposals put forward for a new 4 hour delivery span and a 4 and a half delivery span, and also the choice of keeping the 3 and a hlaf hour duty. there was a vote, and it turned out that the majority voted for the 4 hour delivery, which left alot of people in my office very unhappy, as all walks will be up for auction. now heres the thing, before I voted, one of the DOM came to me and a few other part time staff and gave us a sweet talk for the 4 hour delivery, saying the majority of the part time staff would be made part time, and said nothing to me aout the fact the auction is based on seniority. So the vote goes ahead and the 4 hour span is picked and it turns out only 2 part time staff will be made full time, and the manager says he predicts that my contract will be upped by 5 fecking hours!! also then he tells me the auction is based on seniority. While, I have no problem at all with the way the auction is based on seniority, My DOM played games by keeping a few things from alot of people and telling a few porkie pies. so heres me at the bottom of the auction list, now being told ill probably be a reserve, which Im not looking forward to, and alot of guys that have been there for many years are seething because the chances are they wont get there walk. now when this proposal was first made, the DOM said that HIS bosses wanted him to put the proposal forward. Do you think he`ll earn somekind of bonus or something for getting this proposal through, he was far to keen to push it forward.

Welcome to the world of RM  don't ever believe what management tell you because they lie (best to get everything in writing so there can be no arguments later) and yes your DOM will a bonus (depending on the size of the office) for getting the proposals through.

Well I've heard what the manager said and the promises he made, what I'd like to hear is what the union rep said. It looks to me like the offer of 30 pieces of silver has worked yet again.

You can be forgiven for believing your Dom as you are new but a word of advice NEVER believe managers because they lie and lie and lie. If you think they are one of them rare fair minded ones, then they will be lied to from above to make sure they push through whatever! I do not believe that WTLL votes should be held any voting should be by the members through the rep, HQ or Branch should be contacted to find out the implications of accepting props as too many offices accept new ideas and it escalates out of control (the reason for the lies). Show me a Dom that does not lie and I will show you a DSM that will!! Bitter? no just experience!!

that's the oldest bully boy trick in the book , the preference exercise , then RM can parrot out - we have consulted with our people - any complaints - it's well it was agreed with the Union we had one of :lfo 's love children in as a troubleshooter looking for kudos , firstly he was clever enough to play people up against the Union PEC saying the Area Rep was for it but he couldn't go against his superiors ( it was still subtler union bashing ) , then there was all the slick presentations , he tried to make it " look straight " by letting the Unit Reps have their say , they looked amateurish in comparison but it wasn't their fault as they hadn't been briefed properly .

The vote in this instance was a margarine tub as a ballot box , people in the main rightly viewed it with derision , being used to a place that thrives on it's own corruption which in turn makes people more streetwise/ cynical / skeptical .

It took a year to get that bonus scheme through and even then it had to fiddled .

Senior Management will love the DIM & the DSM , in the case of :lfo 's love child , you only get that far up RM's greasy pole UNLESS you've told RM exactly what they want to hear .

With RM management you have to determine whether it's the three or two card trick , simple as

In my office we've been told that they want 7 duties out but my suspicion is that they'll put up an option of 3 (the original figure) or the 7 they now want and people will be dumb enough to go for the 3 option :mad :mad :mad :mad I'll be telling everyone to not vote at all and let them put forward their cuts and watch them drown in their own mess.

Yeah we were told we had to lose 105 hours a week...this is over about 10%...

Miraculously the manager came to WTLL today and told us how he'd "fought" for us aith area manager, and managed to get this down to 60 hours....If we don't agree to the 60 hour savings, apparently they'll force through the 105hrs....

So, we say we can't save 60 hrs, they then say we have to save 105....

Met with howls of derision.... :funneh

oldest one in the book , the Nice Cop / Bad Cop routine , RM have a five stage plan as used by TNT which will end up as 10 AG's to one full timer , full timers only do Prep , later starts , every office standardized with maximum 20 hr contracts , team working , walk sequencing etc , costs down to absolute minimum , going out of the postcode , other offices . Half the APC's and RDC's shut .

Let's just say RM's relationship with TNT is " cosy "

It's how big :lfo likes it , he learnt it from IBM , Fear , Doubt and Uncertainty or B/S , he's a good puppet master & the master of spin & hype , a lot of firms used that style in the 80 's . RM used to try it as well with their 70's style , there would be deliberate idle gossip / vicious rumours - answers on a postcode as to where they originated from :hmmmm
