Hey guys im in a bit of a pickle at them moment,
ive recently purchased a new bike from the cycle2work program within the last month anyways, because i dont use that bike on my rounds i keep it chained up at work very securly, i left it locked up on tuesday and after my round i left it locked up, i was off yesturday(wednesday) and as i have left it there over night before i thought there wouldn't be a problem!
Anyways as i came to retirieve my bike after work i noticed that my bike was gone, and i obviously though whos stolen it, anyways i rang up the bike manager at work to see if he had seen it and told me he didnt see it there yesturday meaning wednesday. so must have been stolen on a tuesday night! so i went into the office and spoken to the PHG and she imformed me somone else had there bike stolen in similar circumstances, and to report it to the DOM tomorrow, then obviously have to get the police and re run CCTV.
So now im left payin for a bike weekly out of my wages which aint even there:@
Anyways as all Royal Mail carparks have writen on them saying vulnurbles left at owners risk, now surly working for Royal Mail you would think they would have the correct security procedures in place e.g keepin gates locked at dark, more security, more CCTV. Now i am wondering if i could sue Royal Mail for lack of security, as they also leave collection of Mail outside on a york. Now if my bikes been stolen i wonder how much mail would have been! If there leaving high volumes of mail in the open im surly they would have to have correct security procedures in place. Does anyone think i have a case

I leave my bike chained inside the office while i'm out on delivery, never overnight.

I wouldn't leave anything inside or outside on the DO premises! If its outside in the bike racks, (and this includes the delivery cycles), it''ll be removed of any useful parts by whoever needs it, smashed into by vans, yorks or one of the plethora of wheeled containers used by the arseholes loading their cars and then throwing them down the yard from the gate in order to race onto their rounds. Indoors not only is there not enough room for them, they're even more out of sight from vandalism or theft. In either case they would not be under CCTV security at any time.

We had a room in our office for the Benefits Agency, 2 cameras linked to a recorder in the managers office. Although the BA contract has moved out now the cameras are still in use (don't ask me why) so i take advantage of the situation and leave my bike in there. In either case they would not be under CCTV security at any time.

Sadly, the sign in the Car Park, means that you can't sue. It clearly states that you leave things in there at your own risk.newpostie wrote:Hey guys im in a bit of a pickle at them moment,

My Car was damaged in the Staff Car Park, about 4 years ago. But I still had to claim on my Insurance. The trouble is, that as it was a Bike that was stolen. You presumably won't have Insurance. I could be wrong (and I hope I am), but I don't think there's anything you can do about it.

Check the cycle to work contract as well you may have paid for insurance from the supplier without knowing, always worth a check.

I'm sure on my cycle2work contract it says you have to make your own insurance arrangements.

Re: STOLEN cycle2work bike!!
At the moment we have doorkeepers on duty at our carpark entrance most of the time, butnewpostie wrote: Anyways as all Royal Mail carparks have writen on them saying vulnurbles left at owners risk, now surly working for Royal Mail you would think they would have the correct security procedures in place e.g keepin gates locked at dark, more security, more CCTV.
cars still get broken into, and one guy found his motorbike had been taken to pieces and
removed - only a couple of bits left. And now management are issuing electronic passes for
the barriers which will become 'live' in June. Presumably doorkeepers will no longer be required
and thefts will increase.
