Stage 1 or 2

Post by MartinMail »

Hi, I have just been given a warning and am now on stage one of the absences agreement, well this morning actually, not right now  . However, I have had pains in my lower back for about a week or so, then it got a lot worse today. The thing is if I take one day off, I'll be moved to stage two, and if I take two days off, the DOM can officially look at dismissing me.

Not got a clue what to do here.
Any suggestions?

 Thats wrong surely - the agreed conduct code is shown at http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... 36&t=11808" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - might be worth a read, however the agreed structure for warnings and dismissal is:

NON TRIALISTS

Stage 1: 4 absences or 14 days in a 12 month period
Stage 2: 2 absences or 10 days in any 6 month period during the next 12 months
Stage 3: 2 absences or 10 days in any 6 month period during the next 12 months
In deciding whether these standards are met for employees whose trial was recently confirmed, attendance during the whole of employment is considered, not jut from the date trial is confirmed. An employee whose trial has been confirmed following an improvement to the required triallist standard will be put back to the previous stage of the Attendance Procedure but the criteria appropriate to a non-triallist will then apply.

TRIALISTS

Stage 1: 2 absences or 7 days in a 6 month period
Stage 2: 1 absence in the next 2 months
Stage 3: 1 absence in the next 2 months
No triallist should have his/her appointment confirmed whilst under this procedure.

Have a read of the full agreement and make sure you understand it. Then go back to your manager, with your rep or a witness, and ask for clarification.

Stage 1 and 2 warnings are issued at the discretion of the manager even though they are generated automatically by HR.

Why not ask if you can go on light duties or something? Or contact HELP and ask for their advice. Your manager can also refer you.

Stage 1&2 warnings are always issued wether they're deserved or not, it's just easier to issue them. :mad

that's not true for ALL offices. It's at the discretion of the DOM (as said above) I was off for 3 weeks last year, and wasn't issued a stage warning, as the DOM saw it as a genuine illness.

All illnesses are classed as genuine but everyone is still given the warnings (usually before any back to work interviews).

I suggest you see your GP and see if he will write a letter to RM asking
you to be put on light duties (which would probably be sorting in the MC).
You might also contact ATOS to ask them to do the same.

My stage 1 wasn't issued because it was after an AOD and they shouldn't be issued for pregnancy related illnesses either.

Yes I have a suggestion

TBT's post is 100% correct you need to incurr two absences that are less than 6 months apart or go over the 10 days to trigger a stage 2 and the same again to trigger a stage 3 when on a stage 2.

Also if you incurr one absence of no more than 4 days when on stage 2 you will drop off the procedure alltogether rather than revert to stage 1.
