Re: Tired
Don't worry you'll get used to being tired. It does get easier as your body gets used to being flogged like a donkey or is it an ass. But as long as you're a postie you'll be tired. It will take a while to get into the swing of things and the runs so don't worry you won't always finish as late as you are at the moment. I was in bed at 8:30pm last night, really shatered and I had my rest day on wednesday !!

Re: Tired
It is awful when you first start, but as everyne else says, you really will get quicker at the rounds.
It is tiring though, I'm always tired (been doing it for 4 years now), but then I start at 5am, a bit earlier than you!! If I sit down to watch a film at about 6pm I don't get far into it before I nod off!
Stick with it, also you've started at the heaviest time of the year, it can only get better.

You're out delivering until 6pm?mosaddler wrote:im new to the game
been in the job since end of last year.
started doing complete rounds(all different locations) all by myself for a week or so now.
been finishing really late around 6ish.
feel very tired
On tiredness, my advice would be to try and get a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday off every week, even if you have to take a crap walk. That really worked for me early on because by the time of the day off I was usually absolutely knackered. Same thing with holidays, try and break them up. Eventually your body will start to adapt and you won't get as tired as quickly.

Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

Re: Tired
Your hours are 9-2 NOT 9-6 or 4 or 5. You come in at 9am, you go home at 2pm end of story. overtime is voluntary - if you cannot complete in the time that is management's problem, not yours. DO NOT BE INTIMIDATED. As I said to you before - join the union - speak to your rep. if you get no joy from him or her - get onto your branch officers. We are not effing slaves to this lot of no -hopers

Touche with a twist
That' the same for all new postmen, from what I understand, with the exception of the TIME you quoted: six pm is extremely excessive: okay, I could understand, say, four pm, max, but - SIX PM? What are you doing wrong, Mo?mosaddler wrote:im new to the game

From one starter to another
It's true what everyone is saying: the first time you do a walk, it takes longer, because you have to match the sequence of the letters up with the physical locations. That's why it is not a good idea to do a new walk on a light day, say for example, a Saturday, because you can't get a feel for the placing of the physical locations. After that first time, it takes less time to do the walk. When you get home, you just want to change your clothes and relax. You don't realise how much you're actually concentrating
on delivering the mail (just like the concentration of someone driving a road vehicle) until a customer asks you a question, i.e. unwittingly distracts you,
and you have difficulty responding, because you're busy trying to keep in your head the address of the next letter you are trying to deliver, and you just want to get on with your walk. So, the concentration does drain you, as well as the cold. And whatever the weather, you sweat. And as someone was saying, a good film can help you to unwind and fall asleep.
