What exactly is Royal Mail's policy on using cars for delivery ?
I ask because a reply to a letter in the latest 'Courier' ( page 14 ) states that "employees who have permission to use their cars automatically have third-party cover for business use under Royal Mail's business policy".
That surely makes it official Royal Mail policy for private cars to be used for deliveries and will only encorage managers to use undue pressure to pressurise post(wo)men to use their cars to cut costs.

"Today’s workplace has become heartless and soulless. Employees are seen as units of labour, automatons, functionaries, objects for achieving designated tasks, and as costs to be minimised."

Doesn't third party insurance only cover damage to someone else or another vehicle,
and not to the postie or their vehicle?

IMO RM do the bare minimum required.
If it was their policy that posties use their own vehicles then they would need to provide significantly more cover, as it isn't and some choose to use their own transport the business insures the other person.
Thinking about it, it is probably cheaper in the long run, and very much easier to police as no policing is needed.
Confused... You won't be, after the next episode of. SOAP
