:nana Yes, and Police as well should take this business a lot more seriously. In Canada.any dog bite is automatically
reported to the Police, and they take swift action. Here, well. I remember once a Rotweiller almost had me by the neck.
(It's owner used to walk it daily of the lead, on the school route). when I reported it to the Police, they just suggested
that if i knew the owner, just to knock on the door, and ask her to keep it under control!!!!
Like all other Posties, I send a get well message to Keith---

As far as i understand home owners by law should provide safe access from front gate to front door. :speak to the hand :no no

I think the law as it stands protects the owners from prosecution as far as having dogs loose on private property, unfortunatley us posties have to enter their property to deliver.

He was covering a round and so I doubt he was aware of the dogs being dangerous until it was too late... Looking at the gates and fence you wouldn't have any idea there were dogs behind because you can't see... How the the gate open up? It really annoys me we aren't protected as well as we should be.

Can't believe I have just read that....one of our colleagues gets savagly attacked on an unfamiler walk, outside a property by two vicious animals and this "person" try's to say he "knows the score" and then goes on to stick up for "rotties"

I know keith, he's a decent, quiet, gentle guy who didn't deserve this....perhaps underpaid should come and visit Keith in hospital and explain to him that it is all his own fault for having the cheek to try and deliver a customers mail in a postbox outside the property

As for "rotties" being lovely animals if i had my way they would all be banned tomorrow, any found after a certain date after law change would be shot on site and the bill sent to the so called responsable owners

I hope he makes a speedy recovery and the government sorts the law out as quick. Been bitten myself and owner ended up in court, but they don't care its a joke to most people that posties get bitten. About time a harder line was taken to prevent it happening in the first place. I now don't go anywhere near houses with dogs out, and dispite liking dogs it makes you very jumpy.

This.

If there's a dog loose, or front door open but closed garden gate then I don't enter the property, you have no idea what's going to come tearing out towards you.
That's why it's important to have a regular postie who knows all the dangers and can take take reasonable steps to limit or avoid them.

I hope Keith makes a good recovery. I was also bitten by a mad dog and chose to resign because of it - after all I didn't wish to get bitten again by any other dogs. Why should postie's have to put up with this??? It's a disgraceful situation. A company the size of Royal Mail should provide posties with "proper" training how to fight off an attacking dog AND give posties some CS spray or defensive weapons, defensive body armour, to protect against this growing menace!!!
