Weighing your bags.
Do you weigh your bags before you go out on delivery?
With the new Health and Safety guidelines now in,as you know we're supposed to weigh them and
decrease the weight of them the more bags we've got.
Which is a bit of a farce down my way as no one does it.
Vote,and your thoughts please.

I don't know where RM pulled this magical 16kg number from?
In my office we had 5ft 60 year old women who could barely lift 16kgs and then young guys in their 20s who could carry double that amount.
My first bag would be almost 30kg everyday. Mostly because of poor pouch box locations, but also because if I took out any less, I'd be waiting absolutely ages for my driver to show up with the rest of my bags.
If my bag was too heavy to comfortably carry, as they so often were, I'd simply leave the bag on the bike and push that around.
I'm all for H&S like you guys, but there comes a point were it just isn't practical. Everytime the managers at my office would make weighing bags their priority, people would end up cutting off and bringing mail back because they were wasting time on the walks by walking to and fro between pouch boxes and waiting for drivers to drop off "timed drops" because they now had twice as many pouches that wont fit in the boxes any more.
So long as your driver doesn't mind lifting heavy bags from the van to the pouch boxes (and in my experience they don't have a problem with it) then it shouldn't matter how big your bags are.

Hi
When i was at my last office they wernt really that strict on weighing bags as long as they could see figures by your name thats all that mattered, As for me my driver was great, he never complained about how heavy the bags would be and just put them into the pouch boxexs. Now at my new office we all use trolleys

Imagine this:-
100 walks in an office, with 8 pouches each, is 800 pouches a day.
Lets say 25% are overweight, that's 200 pouches a day.
All dumped outside the gaffer's office, with an instruction of 'I need it at so and so street at 10am'.
Think of how many drivers jobs you can create.
Think how much overtime it would create.
Think how many jobs it would create within your office.
Think how many jobs it would create in the COUNTRY.
Suggest it to your mate, and his mate, and her mate, until you all do it.
Spread the word and watch the jobs flow...

I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

my god i am begining to think i work in the dark ages. weigh the bags. yes only at postal school many years ago. if your bag ain't ready to go when the driver is tough. take your car or wait for a line manager to come out with it. and wait is the right word!! we have a fairly new brummie girl with a right gob and total attitude. not bad when shes hugging all the blokes in the morning but if shes in a strop forget yer bags just take your car. managers do nothing about her. infact she told one secure drop bag place to go f off. nearly cost a bloke a secure drop. customer complained and dom did nothing. another bloke told a woman the same thing 15 years service down the drain. trust me 16kgs is not worth the hassle. if you can lift it take it
floating postie.
