Yellow cards being issue in our delivery office?

Post by kwf166 »

Has anyone heard of this crazy idea, posties receiving yellow cards whilst out on there deliveries, these cards will be like fixed penalty notices, if you received one, you have to report back to one of the managers  for example if you are caught using your bike like a scooter, you will get a ticket, cycle helmet must be worn at all times, this also include hi vist. and I am wondering if this will lead to deduct in your wages?

Have you heard of this at your office, and is this allowed, I wonder what the union think about this, I find this humiliating, as if we posties haven't got enough on our plates, its seems to be a case of us posties against them (managers)

Ask them under what part of the conduct code does this come and ALL conduct is covered by the AGREED conduct code and as a CWU rep this does not so they can stick their yellow cards where the sun doesent shine

Part of the Conduct says: "Employees also have the right to be treated in an impartial, non-discriminatory way". So surely 1 office handing out yellow cards is a direct breach of just this one extract.

Quite right brother Teebs and as you say a right to be treated in an impartial, non-discriminatory way. Who are Royal Mail if true to dish out said yellow cards when they as a company, have been red carded more times (Prohibition and/or Improvement Notices) by the relevant enforcing authorities for breaches of health and safety legislation.

3 Prohibition Notices issued & 143 Improvement Notices issued in recent years:

The latest of which was an Improvement Notice issued on 9th August 2008 at Royal Mail Dunmow DO in Essex which was a notice requiring walk logs to be produced to identify any specific risks and controls on delivery duties. Breaches found Health and Safety at Work Act 1974/2// - Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999/3/1 & Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999/10/1.

And an Immediate Prohibition Notice issued 10th June 2008 at Unit 4-4a, Dennis Way, Guidford, Surrey which related to damaged access steps marked GW4 being used to access lifting cables on vehicle tail-lifts despite showing signs of damage and having failed on inspection 12 months previously. Breach found PUWER 1998/5/1.
"Today’s workplace has become heartless and soulless. Employees are seen as units of labour, automatons, functionaries, objects for achieving designated tasks, and as costs to be minimised."
