Anyone want a PDA?

Post by DGP1 »

I was searching around the internet and I found this http://www.codepack.co.uk/intermec-cn3- ... rrency=£, now I know that RM as a bulk customer should pay less (it wouldn't surprise me if they paid more) but nearly £1500 (VAT)for each one seems to me to be a waste of money.

Maybe that's why some of the procurement managers are going.

they are very expensive. probably over priced I would say...

but after the initial outlay (okay, there will be maintainance costs on them too).. then they will save a lot of time and money spent on the processing of papertrails etc.

Once deliveries are signed/logged and recorded on a database via the system, then that removes a lot of other work that is probably required without these new systems.

Although im knew, so maybe im optimistic :D

Mass produced technology wise they are only worth about £200 (at the most) but lwo production can easily double the cost. When you factor in that businesses want the whole package of supply, gaurantee, warranty and support that also adds a lot more. Then you get the profit from the supplier +VAT and a total stupid price for what could have been done better for much less than 50% of what they payed.

I can understand it in the terms of profit vs investment but with a company the size of RM it could develop the whole system itself for less ... but then it wouldn't have the gaurantees (which are worthless in my opinion).

Overpriced and not as good as competitors. RM PDA's are not meant to be carried around by a postman on a delivery, they're meant to be used by a driver nippin in and out of his van.Yet they intend all postman in the future will use these crappy devices, I've seen mobile phones that can do better things.

I had my PDA training the other day and the guy showing us how to work them said they are trialling newer versions somewhere, they will be alot smaller but won't be as protected, so I guess they will last about a day! So when the new ones are introduced the PDA's we've got now won't be used, what a waste of money!
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
