Low Letterboxes

Post by DPC »

How many people refuse to deliver to houses on your round with the lowest level letterboxes ? Luckily I only have 2.
I have hurt my side recently, so it hurts to bend.

I didn't think it was a thing that we were even allowed to refuse to deliver to low level letterboxes? I've never been on a walk that didn't have loads on it. I used to struggle with them but lots of stretching exercises helps with that.

They are banned in Ireland. In the UK parliament have talked about banning them so obviously nothing will happen here. Letters will dissappear before low level letter boxes.

I have a road with about 190 houses split into 3 loops 150 most have ground level letterboxes, thankfully we now only deliver 3/4 times a week, but the bundles can now be bigger, so I knock, I tell them "Sorry I can not get down there" no answer, I leave the mail half hanging out in protest, never had a complaint, but if I did my answer to management would be "Sorry I can not get down there"

It's the low letter boxes that also have a tight draught excluder that really infuriate me, I bend my back to reach as my knees aren't great & then have a fight with the excluder to get mail through !

This.

Especially if you only have 1 letter or a stupid thin card type item that has the latest big store offers and sales etc advertising on them. I knock on the door and proceed to fold into quarters before posting if no answer.

What do people find worse and more annoying?

The low level letterboxes with the draught excluders or the miniature wall mounted postboxes that struggle to take a single regular sized letter never mind a flat or thick radio times/holiday brochure type magazine?

Yeah I particularly hate those, the ones that the only thing you can comfortably fit in is a postcard :thumbup

Haha one of this week's d2ds is a local newspaper that gets sent periodically, it's the size of a folded regular newspaper and won't easily fit in those awful boxes I'd love to see someone turn up at the callers office to find out it's a d2d :chuckle
