In Wolverhampton office.
They start do good for few months.
Then….
2 sacked for powder distribution (sorry I can’t say the word lol)
1 sacked for dumping d2ds with walk label in the country side haha.
2 start first day. Next day no show and they resign lol.

Many come in totally blinkered to the workload we do, and all the different aspects to the job, they just get overwhelmed, or they end up thinking sod this, there's easier minimum wage jobs out there!

We have 2 people in our office that don't prep or do D2D's all week then as if by magic they all disappear on a Saturday and it's never questioned.

The training is also little to none.

People generally think the job is like postman effin pat
Strolling around leisurely, delivering a street or two of letters, having a cuppa with the nice old lady at No 34.
They get a rude awakening when they actually do the job.

The attrition rate in this industry is insane at the moment.
New starts rarely last 6 months, and at least one old-contract is leaving every few months.
It must be costing a shed load of money to keep hiring and supplying all the new staff, as well as compensating for their many mistakes.
It’s a doom spiral that seems to be accelerating.

Re: What’s going on with the new starters lately lol
Gone are the days they were put on the same walk for 6 weeks with full support from the manager and union rep. They come in with no real training, moved onto different walks, have to come in a lot of Sunday's and they are on minimum wage.
When I started 12 years ago I was on £2 more than the minimum wage at the time which in current money will be £3 more, I was with the workplace coach for days literally shadowing me for the first 2 days, I felt valued. I was also finishing my round fully without any issues or worries of going over and some days actually finishing a bit earlier on a Saturday.

I'm a new starter but on the driving side. I have had one day only, never done this before and they expecting me out on my own on the next set of duties, having not really seen the job properly or what it entails, and not seen all the offices I need to go to. I was hoping for at least 3 full days at least, does that seem unreasonable ?

I'm guessing you're driving the 7.5 tonners or 600 or whatever they're called to and from delivery offices, that's probably as good as it gets training, I'm with you with personally I'd like more training but I reckon they expect you to be able to find the offices without being shown where they are, most weeks we get different people turning up that I've never seen before, ours is quite tight to get into and turn round so they usually reverse in from the main road, I'd recommend looking at where you're planned to go and look on Google maps and street view if you don't know, also ask someone who's done the duties which way they go etc, can you turn round in the yard, can you even get in the yard etc, if it's on an industrial estate then no problem but some are slap bang in the middle of housing estates for example.PH75 wrote: ↑30 Nov 2025, 09:15I'm a new starter but on the driving side. Re: What’s going on with the new starters lately lol
Hi, My duty has different offices on all 3 days and is a mixture of deliveries and collections. To me 1 day is not enough at all. I'm going to ask for more training or shadowing if if they say no, then there's my answer and I will decide what I do next. Joining at this time of year and with how busy and pressured it is probably isn't helping.

Hi, only my recruitment assessment back in August. I believe I'm out with the ADC on Thursday and then expected out on my own Saturday onwards on my 3 day duty with all different offices and content on each day.A2B wrote: ↑30 Nov 2025, 09:40No that's certainly not unreasonablePH75 wrote: ↑30 Nov 2025, 09:15I'm a new starter but on the driving side. Re: What’s going on with the new starters lately lol
Any advice on how I should approach the training issue and ask for more time before I go out alone ? Like I say, only had 1 day out yesterday and it blew my mind and so much to take in. Sounds silly I guess but people all learn in different ways and the last thing I need and want is added worry and pressure cos I feel I haven't had much time.
