I thought old contracts only lose money after being off for 6 months not a few weeks.

Second absence in a year you lose 40% of your weeks wages, third absence you lose 80%.

This new sick procedure was introduced to stop the people abusing the old system. I wonder if it has actually worked? Or whether people are still taking the pi$$? 🤔

Not really, in the past if you were sick for 1 or 2 days you'd be in on the 2nd/3rd day, now you just take the full week off. Because when you're ill the next time, you don't get paid for the first 2 days. So bollocks to them.

That's pretty much how it's now working in ours take 2 days wages so people take longer than they need out of spite.

Guy I work with has been off for 2 months. He had an operation, but has to have another in about 6-8weeks, he could have came back on light duties, but as he will be off again for the third time in a year, he will lose 4 days pay, so it makes financial sense for him to remain off sick on full pay for the duration.

But the OP said they came back early as they'd lose money?

Exactly, the piss takers at our place were never the odd day with the runs they were the "bad back" mob taking a full week as an extra holiday.
